I jumped ship! New Matrox Moderator needed. Details inside.

Thu Sep 04, 2003 10:36 pm

Well I finally did it. I jumped the Matrox ship. I've been running an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro for a couple of weeks now & I think I should give up the Matrox Mod job.

To me a dedicated Matrox Forum needs a dedicated Matrox fanboy Moderator and that aint me anymore.

If you think that description fits YOU & you want the job email Damage or PM Damage and tell him you're interested:

You don't have to be a total and complete Matrox expert but it could help. The TR forums are usually pretty well behaved so heavy handedness is generally never needed.

Heh... the P650/750 were the last straw for you, eh?

Quite frankly, I don't think you need to be a "fanboy" for the product to be a mod; being even-handed is more important. If your only reason for resigning is that you no longer consider yourself to be a Matrox "fanboy", I urge you to reconsider.

If I may digress... WTF happened to Matrox, anyway? The G450 was a very nice card for its day, so I know they've got (or at least had?) some great engineers working for them. But realistically, I think Matrox's chances of "runnin' with the big boys" anytime soon are not good... bummer... having the PC graphics world controlled by the ATI/nVIDIA duopoly is not a particularly good thing. Where are the BitBoys when you need them?

I'm not a fanboy, but I'm very pro-Matrox. ;)

Shame on you Webhobbit, and I thought you were going to get a P650.

JBI: I think you mean G400, G450 was the product from Matrox that makes everyone go: "WTF?"

They've laid off massive amounts of their workforce in the last year. Basically Matrox's problems were management compounded by lack of execution.

Also, unless drastic changes are made deep inside Matrox, we won't see anything from them (in the high-end) for a long time...

with only 21 topics from whenever this section was born, this is THE most
INACTIVE section on this entire forum site.

i vote that this just be deleted and anyone who talks about matrox crap
can just do so in the GENERAL graphics forum. all the current threads
that are in here now can just be moved there.

why not do this today and get it over with. you can cry about it now but
the hurt wont last that long. all pain goes away with time! hahaha

WebHobbit: You definitely don't need to be a "fanboy" in order to be a moderator. In fact, I'd say that being a fanboy would be a negative quality in a moderator.

whoa! wait a sec...being a fan of something that one feels passionate
about is HOW TELL ME a negative quality?

in fact, it's the most positive ultimate quality in the world that one can
have...

thegleek, if you keep your post-fu like a real posting whore, you'll surpass me in a month. I am simply amazed.

i'm not in it for the contest to beat ppl in post counts.

ask yerself how many posts YOU would have if you had eight hours a day
to spend just on this forums waiting for something new to talk about or
to answer someone's ramblings.... this is why my post count rises as such.

thegleek: I said "fanboy," which is usually taking passion to the extreme.

By being passionate about something, people tend to lose objectivity of the object/idea/etc in question. Being a moderator requires a healthy dose of objectivity.

So there's nothing wrong with being passionate about something, however, taking it to "fanboy" levels is in my mind a negative thing for a moderator.

Back to the issue at hand, am I the only one interested in the position? I'd definitely do my best to make the Matrox forum more visible. Too bad I couldn't do the same for the company.

You could always turn it into the matrox/3Dfx/S3/Number Nine forum. Talk about all the good times you had with all these old cards, that way you could get some extra action here. You could call it the failed makers forum, maybe include BitBoyz in it too since they never made a card.

Heh...good idea. How about:

"Video Cards Other - Matrox, 3DFX, Number Nine, etc."

But really IMHO it should probably just be deleted and all the threads moved into Graphic General forum. But that would be up to Damage.

S3 is dead, they changed their name to sonicblue and went bankrupt.

Yes, technically old S3 is dead, but the Graphics division (even though 90% of staff has changed) still "lives on".

If elected, I'd do my best to make this forum grow and be more relevant. I'd still be happy to moderate it if it were combined into a Matrox plus forum.

I think the idea of changing it to the Other Chipsets forum makes sense. It is still different from the General Graphics forum, in that General Graphics is for issues that are not specific to any chipset.
