Cheap HSF for GeForce 8600GT?

Postposted on Sun Sep 05, 2010 4:46 am

Does anyone know where one can buy a cheap HSF for an old 8600GT video card? The card isn't worth much so I don't want to drop a bunch on a new HSF, but the fan on the old one is starting to grind and will probably be short lived. I tried pulling back the sticker on the fan and oiling its mechanism, but no dice.

The card is an MSI NX8600GT-T2D256E OC GeForce 8600 GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Support Video Card which can be seen here:

I'd say it's not worth spending any money on that card. I don't think you'd find much under $20-30.

Instead, how about a GTS250 for $69.99 after MIR?

Zalman vga coolers are here:

but you're looking at $30....

Here is something for $15:

but compatibility is uncertain.

I agree with Voldenuit, though. You should just look for a new card. If the card he suggested is too expensive...

Here's a $50 Zotac Geforce 9500 GT with lifetime warranty:

If you're not gaming with it you could go a lot cheaper than that too.

Good point. If you're not gaming, a passive Radeon 54xx or 55xx would solve the fan life problem altogether.
