Help me find a monitor

Fri Sep 03, 2010 2:12 am

Looking for an affordable monitor with a resolution of 1920x1200 or higher. I'm a college student, I do a lot of cad work as well as some gaming. looking to spend $300 or less.

I've been looking at:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4938558&pagenumber=1&RSort=8&csid=ITD&recordsPerPage=5&body=#ReviewStart
but honestly have never heard of the company before and don't know how reliable they are.

help me with some recommendations out of these or any other monitor that fits for me. or should I just give up and buy a nicer 1080 monitor.

Thanks

I just picked up one of those VW266H's, should be arriving today. Looks pretty solid as long as you get it calibrated right. I won't be able to get to it for a week, but after that I'll let you know what I think of it.

Only thing of note is that at 28 inches, you may begin to notice the TN color grading across the display surface while sitting at a normal working distance. Depending on how you typically set your CAD display color scheme, that may or may not be a problem while working.

If you think that will bother you, and you can push your budget a bit higher, this 24" HP display is pretty much the best price/size compromise available for an IPS panel...but if you're into the uber-fast-twitch gaming style, the response time might be just a hair slow.

The Dell U2410 is another good 1920x1200 IPS choice. It often gets down to $500 with their "instant savings," sometimes lower if you have a coupon you can combine with it.

Yeah I do play the twitch fps games, I don't necessarily want a 28" monitor, it just seems that since 1080 has become the craze and ruined monitor resolutions it is difficult to find affordable high res monitors.

So I've been using the VW266H for a few days now, and I love it. I don't notice much color grading across it, and the viewing angles aren't too horrible - I had a few people watching episodes of a TV show on it (not straight-on viewing) without any problems. Didn't have any dead or stuck pixels when it came either, which is always nice. I didn't do any calibration, but then again I'm not too discerning as far as what I'm looking at - I haven't noticed any pink or blue hues like I'd seen mentioned in some of the reviews, but maybe I just can't see it.

Also.. it's big :D It was a nice upgrade from my 19" 1280x1024 that I had before. So much more desktop space, and the pixel pitch is almost identical which is nice, because it means I don't need to have my glasses on for looking at it (like I do with some smaller pixel pitch monitors).
