Quoting the FRL after Suzuka:
With this week's wooden spoon going to "SeanOnSlicks" who scored just 494 points

What in the world happened? TR counted on you to represent us in the overall standings?!?!

Probably lost most of his team to the 1st lap crash.

An F1 calendar that doesn't include Spa-Francorchamps? That's utter heresy.

If we're going to call it the World Drivers Championship, make them all drive a car that needs a real driver:

You know what? I have been floating this idea similar to the draft lottery for a number of years already. So when Bernie structures a contact with a track it will be in the form of "guarantee 5 races in the next 10 years" for example. And then each year you increase the number of "balls" in the lottery to make sure that the track that were passed over in previous years get the chance to host. The lottery can become a highly televised/hyped/blogged event in and of itself and you can shake things up while keeping the ~18 races per year calendar. Now you say you must have a few Euro races? Give them more balls or you lottery them within their own pool.

The only problem is that the total randomness of this may make a logistical nightmare (if you end up with almost everything flyaway), but right now there are just too many other venues vying for the hosting privilege and not enough timeslots available. This idea would at least ensure fairness?

But I agree, Bernie sometimes seems weird in making these odd proposals, his worst being the medal crap.

Bernie's lottery?

First, someone needs to dispossess F1 from Bernie. He's the true cancer here.

Second, F1 should pull back and only run on its historic tracks. Bring back Watkins Glen, the Nordschliefe, Rheims, and expand Spa to its historic layout.

Havok4600, my second profile is ranked 22nd in FRL and i still have one more bonus round with me. I am quiet excited to see what comes of it.

In other news, jigar2speed profile is still struggling against the cubical10's 150 bonus start, i am exactly 147 points behind him :(

EDIT: Both of us have still not fired the double point bonus. So let's see how it goes.

If you've got a spare several million in your pocket, you too can own an original Ferrari transporter from the early days of F1. How many Shark Noses and 250GTOs (or P3/P4s based on the pics) rode to events on this beautiful beastie?

Final race next weekend, time to place your bets, lotsa possibilities! exciting finale ahead.

I've sticked to my original picks season long. Still betting on Ferrari (no chance on constructor's) and Alonso (2nd next race will do for WDC). It's going to be tight next week as Red Bull still is the strongest car, Vettel fast and Webber consistent lately.

HobdayMotors has got Cubical10's attention Link

In other news, my second profile (Havok4600) ranks 14 in the world, let's see where my jigar2speed profile ends. :)

Best of luck to all, this is the last round. :D

The 1972 Can-Am season:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8Er3VzwGrY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDwOhTS-p4Q

I'm old enough to remember watching the last 2-3 years of the glory days of Can-Am on TV ('71-'74). Back in the day these closed-body "sports cars" were far faster than F1 cars on the few tracks (Mosport & Watkins Glen, I think) they shared. Can-Am was the high water mark of open formula racing; if you could build it you could race it. These 2 videos are the first year of the Porsche 917, in its 917/10 short-tail incarnation. The later 917/30 long-tail version lapped Talladega at 221 MPH and clocked straightaway speeds in excess of 250 MPH.

Can-Am went where F1 did not dare to go at the time, i.e. cubic dollars spent on cars with very few rules. The 1973 917/30 pushed close to 1600HP in qualifying trim at a time when the F1 bog-standard Cosworth/Ford DFV was at 450HP or so. To my way of thinking Can-Am cars should have become the cars in which a World Driving Championship was won, and the open formula concept should have become (and remain) the F1 standard.

Dear God those cars were glorious beasts.

So I managed to eek out a win!
My team struggled mightily mid season, and tanked the last race, but it was still enough.
I think I managed 5th last year.

I handcuffed myself by spending all of my points, so making trades mid season, was basically impossible.

Anyway, to carry on the tradition we started last year, this was my team.

I thought I could have leapfrogged to 8th in the league, but it was not meant to be. Global rank: 443.

I setup my team at the beginning of the season and then left it alone. I'd even forgotten my password and had to recover that to get in and get the results.Image
