I don't have time right now, but I'll take this as an indication of the price during the Christmas sale.

Wish I had caught Batman AA the other day. It, at least would have run well on my aging HD 4850 crossfire setup :( I hear Metro 2033 is a $#@^ with Ati cards, particularly the older gens. Oh well, maybe this will spur a new video card purchase this holidy season..

a 4850 is not old gen...
they still sell 4870s brand new

THQ is that silly company that wants to charge people for used games or disable resale?
I am not really into any of their gory FPS stuff
I remember they used to make cute licensed games long time ago I think on the sega genesis

LOL. I kept putting it off because it sounds like it will make my 4850 sad. But, that's a good price, and I've been wanting to play it, so... :)

This is absolutely irrelevant. If you're buying games on Steam you've already accepted the inability to resell your games (unless you like juggling an account per game).

It should run pretty well on 4850CF, especially if they're 1gb cards. It was mostly playable for me (sometimes dipped below 30FPS) with a single 512MB at 1920x1200 on High iirc; AA/AF were likely at lower settings, I can't recall.

of course it is relevant

if Iran was the game publisher for metro2033 would you be playing it just because it is on steam and cheap?
Just because I am not going to resell my games purchased on steam does not mean I dont purchase other games and care about the computer industry and where video games are headed
it is exactly that kind of thinking that leads companies to release crap like FFXIV

I managed to catch that and I'm sooo glad I did. That is one of the most entertaining games ever. It is such a blast! It runs extremely well on the old 4850 too and looks darn gorgeous.

THQ has decided to charge people who wish to use their servers, if those people haven't paid them for their games, and somehow that equates them to Iran?

A mature person doesn't act like they're being cheated when a business decides not to provide services for free.

Metro 2033 and Steam: physXloader.dll install issue

Thu Oct 28, 2010 3:44 pm

I've bought 4 games on Steam and Metro 2033 is the first that hasn't worked right off the bat. After installation the game would not start, with the error message: "PhysXloader.dll not found" or some such. What I had to do to get it to work was go to:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\metro 2033\install

and click on the PhysX exe file. After doing this a few times (did not seem to want to install properly right away), it finally seemed to install PhysX and after a reboot, the game worked. Don't know if this would be specific for those with ATI cards or not.

Anyone else get this?

Unfortunately they're 512mb cards. And I'm trying to run at 2560X1600. I only had time to play for a couple of minutes so far, but to my surprise, with settings on high and minimal AA, I was getting ~30 FPS with peaks in the mid thirties @ 2560X1600 with 4850 512mb crossfire. I can only imagine, however, that these FPS will tank as soon as I see any real action.

I got this as well. Manually installed via the same path you've shown there, and then rebooted and it works fine. First time I've had that problem though. I was thinking, "Why is this a problem: I don't have NVidia."

I don't quite see your point either

"would i play it just because its on steam and cheap?" yes. those specific points have led me to purchase and play many games that i otherwise would not have, regardless of publisher. and as someone already pointed out, your getting it on steam, you have already given up your ability to resell it anyways.

I had the PhysX install problem as well. I tried installing the PhyxX exe multiple times but it didn't work. The installer didn't tell me to restart, but after restarting then it worked.

Playing on a 5770. DX 11 "high" no DOF and no tess at 1600x1200 plays pretty well except for frequent stutters.

I did enable tessellation for a bit to see what it looked like. My hopes were high. I was disappointed. Is anyone else? I can hardly tell the difference except for 50% of my frame rate goes away! :-?

Does anyone else have this odd feeling that the book is going to be better? I don't remember if I've encountered that with a game before :)
