I don't know, but my guess is that it means you can pass 3D video through the receiver. I'd be shocked if it required any sort of loop-back, but older receivers that used HDMI wouldn't have supported HDMI1.3, which is required to provide the bandwidth for 3d video.
And now I've got three people who know me telling me to buy a 2D TV and buy a 3D one in a few years when the technology has matured. Which wouldn't sway me except if prices keep dropping I can buy a nice 2D TV now and a nice 3D TV in 2-3 years (when there's more content) for the same price as a 3D TV now. I knew there was a premium but I hadn't realized it was close on 100%.
