Good Heatsink and Fan for i7 950 Overclock?

Sun Nov 28, 2010 2:19 pm

Hey guys,

I have an i7 950, Asus Sabertooth X58 motherboard, and 2 x Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x 2GB) CMX6GX3M3A1600C9 memory kit's (so 12GB's all up) on order. I'll be re-using my Antec P182 for the case, and have just bought a Thermaltake ToughpowerXT 875W power supply. I'd like to push the i7 950 to 4GHz, however, I am unsure of what cooling to buy for it. I'd like to stay with air cooling. I have an old Thermalright XP120 heatsink with a 120mm Scythe Ninja fan...but I don't have a bracket to use it with the i7's LGA1366 socket...any suggestions for a good heatsink/fan setup?

Thanks in advance to any replies! :)

I use a Corsair A70 to cool my i7 930. I live in southern California where the weather typically runs quite hot and I was able to OC my CPU to 4.7 ghz with this cooler without overheating (full load never got about 75C). For every day use I leave the CPU at ~3.5ghz and it idles between 20-25C and loads between 50-60C. The cooler is a bit on the pricey side but I am a huge fan of its looks and performance. It is definitely the most prominent component in my case haha.

You should consider one of the self-contained liquid cooling systems. Excellent setup and easy to install. Allows for tall spreaders on the ram too.
