The microcontroller prototyping stuff, test PC, and parts cabinet weren't there. All drilling/sawing of sheet metal and FR4 fiberglass, and the soldering of the large power resistors took place in the adjoining bathroom (the door to which is visible in pic #4).

An old receiver and turntable (both dating back to the 1980s), used for ripping old vinyl LPs to FLAC format; a fairly old Epson scanner. As you can see, this stuff serves as additional horizontal space to pile crap on when not in use!

Well, getting in/out is easy. The door to the office is just to the left of the first pic, and the desk chair swivels. Rotate chair towards door, sit down, rotate chair back towards the desk or table, depending on what I'm working on.

The door to the closet (where most of the computer parts are) is directly behind the chair, so that is reasonably accessible as well.

The far side of the heap of boxes in the last pic is accessible through the door behind it (there is another door into that bathroom from the other side of the basement).

If I need to do something to the web server I crawl under the table. Fortunately it is rock solid stable (126 days since last reboot as of today), and all routine maintenance can be done over the network (there isn't even a keyboard/mouse/monitor connected to it, and it has probably been 6+ months since I needed physical access to it for anything). It is probably past due to have the dust bunnies blown out of the CPU heatsink though...

I think your workstation looks fantastic. There is a lot of personal touch to the place. That is typically what mine looks like (minus the cardboard boxes). Unfortunately for me I had some time off during the holiday season and I cleaned it up (and got a shelving for Christmas) so I no longer have the clutter I did. (argument with the lady if you get my drift). Its taking a while to get used to though. (I know I should of taken before pictures but I didn't think of it)

I originally posted these pics a few months ago in another thread. They're not actually in my office; they're stashed in a corner of the crawlspace:



My file server, which is based on a Tyan Socket 939 motherboard and runs Ubuntu 9.04. It has a 1 TB RAID-5 volume and a 1 TB scratch volume. I'd like to upgrade the RAID volume to at least 2 TB. File systems are exported via NFS (for Linux clients) and Samba (for Windows clients). The metallic green Alienware case came from the clearance room at the local TigerDirect retail store a number of years back; they had a truckload of surplus full tower cases in assorted obnoxous colors that they were unloading for really cheap.



My router, which is based on a DFI Socket 754 motherboard and runs Ubuntu 10.04 LTS from an internally mounted CF card (no hard drive). The butt ugly mid-tower case was given to me by a friend; it had other hardware in it when I received it (IIRC a dead Pentium 3 system with numerous exploded capacitors on the motherboard). I've never heard of Quantex before.

Here's mine. It would be a better pic if my flash unit and my camera talked to each other. Instead, I was stuck with the on-camera flash, which cut into the F-stops needed for good DOF. The room used to be much messier until SWMBO cleaned it up without asking first. She still doesn't understand why that bothered me.

Mine gets cleared off every few months. It's almost that time hehe.

Well, I couldn't sleep, so I figured I would contribute to this thread. Apologies for the poor photo quality, I used my Incredible for them as I don't have a working normal camera.

From left to right:

Desk area. Down on the bottom left is my Sonata III. Book is for my Mixed signal VLSI class (ADCs/DACs). Thermometer is just because I like to know what temperature it is. Moving right...

My recliner, bookcase, TV and electronics, shelves...and the only windows in my bedroom.

Closeup of the electronics stuff. That's a Sega Genesis behind the TV. The small rack has some textbooks that I have kept, and random junk. Bottom has my solderless breadboard and associated parts. Not a whole lot of parts for it, just a few ICs and some gates.

Last and certainly not least is my bookshelf. Top shelf is all Star Wars novels. Bottom has other books, as well as my notes and papers from college over the last year or so and moar textbooks. And a really old copy of Stranger in a Strange Land sticking out.

From the Matco tool dealer that comes to our shop, It was a demo at their tool expo and is signed by Antron Brown(their top fuel driver), got it for 6k, as equipped it lists for around 11k new.

ya that has kind of gotten a problem recently her hairs have even piled up in my case in the fans
