Northern Virginia's gotten a dusting here and there, but nothing to speak of. Temperatures are about what you'd expect for this time of year.

We got a pretty big snowstorm over the weekend here in Edmonton, 2 to 3 feet of it. Getting around hasn't been a lot of fun. Temperatures took a nosedive too and it looks like they are stuck where they are for at least the next week. We are definitely paying for the nice weather we had for the New Year and the first week of January!

Here in Western North Carolina we received anywhere between eight to 16 inches of snow. Apparently those are the conditions required to declare a State Emergency. I don't know who is smoking what, but I made it to work just fine. And, a shovel works pretty darn well at getting snow off of the drive way.

I had to brush the snow off my car. While I was doing that, people were driving down the road at a couple miles per hour. If you're really going to drive that slow, why don't you just walk?! It'd be faster.

Meanwhile, when I got my car out onto the street, know what I discovered? The traction was just fine and I didn't slip one bit. I didn't drive insane fast, but I wasn't going two miles per hour.

I caught up to one driver who passed my driveway a few minutes before I got into my car and rocked my car out of the driveway. (Didn't quite have time to spend on shoveling that morning, but the driveway is shoveled now.)

High winds all night and a daytime temperature in the 50s tomorrow. Meanwhile, the northern and central mountains are getting nailed with yet another 10 inches.

The ice on our roads is finally mostly gone in the shady spots... it's been 50 degrees the past two days.

This was one of the worst snow storms we've had in regards to road conditions. Usually when it snows here in GA the roads are fine the next day.

We live in the country and had to shovel 1/8 of a mile of ice off our driveway just to get out and see how awful the roads were on Tuesday evening. Schools were canceled the entire week, and I was told to stay home from work till Thursday afternoon! Luckily our power stayed on along with most of the state's.

Like I said in my post on Monday, after all the snow, we got about 1/3" of sleet and frozen rain to top it all off. The stuff on the ground looked so bizarre, all shiny making everywhere look like an ice rink and rather difficult to walk on. That was what made it so bad in addition to it not getting above freezing until Friday. Just crazy.

It was nice getting 3.5 days off for my birthday though! :P

Strange weather here lately. Two days ago we had a couple of feet of snow then it started raining now we have almost no snow left. Its 45 degrees outside right now which is just bizarre for here this time of year.

Last night there was an ice storm in the DC area. This morning everything is covered in a thick encasing of ice. The trees and cars are glazed like donuts. DC government and some school districts are opening on a two hour delay, and many schools are closed.

Another six inches on the ground in NY. Last weekend below zero (-5 to -10 degrees Fahrenheit (-20 to -24C for you guys overseas)), this week a big snow storm.

The ice storm this morning came in from the south? How does an ice storm come from the sunny, hot south?

It sure wasn't sunny or hot last week!

The rain came from down here though and ran into the cold air from the west if I'm not mistaken.

Because it was a low-pressure system. They rotate counter-clockwise. The air that hit you started from the north of the storm and was swung down to you at the bottom of the circle.

Usually picking up moisture from the south, in fact.

Supposedly a light dusting of snow by late afternoon, followed by another 1-3 inches before midnight. We shall see.

Fookin' cold (sub-zero) here earlier this morning, and only 7 above now (that is probably as high as we're gonna get today). Humans were not engineered to function properly in these temperatures!

It's gotta be below 70 here... but the wind makes it feel below 60. The sun as only hinted at its existence over Haleakala.

With any luck, the temperature in my house will actually reach the thermostat setting (65F) sometime tomorrow when it finally warms up into the 20's(F). I can't wait for this month's natural gas bill.

The Subie, though, had no issues starting this AM at -21F.

It was 16* (F) this morning. The starter in my WRX seems to struggle when it's cold but it always starts up. Tomorrow it's supposed to go up to 50* (F). Looks like we're having outdoor recess.

Do you normally have that cold of weather where you live ? Been in the teens at night here the last few days which is fairly normal. Still don't have much snow here.

The average VT winter has a couple of spells like this; this is our first this winter. Average winter temps are 10s/20s F for highs and 0s/10s F for lows.
