Gotta love linux coders

Tue Jan 25, 2011 7:31 pm

Nice to see that linux developers have a sense of humor. Just go into the terminal and type "apt-get moo" and behold the madness. :)
Tomorrow will take us away, far from home, no one will ever know our names, but the bard's song will remain....

That's only the tip of the iceberg.

The menu-driven version of apt (aptitude) has some Easter Eggs in it as well. The help for aptitude (displayed with the --help option) states that "This aptitude does not have Super Cow Powers." Also try:
aptitude moo

Then, try:
aptitude -v moo

(The '-v' option increases the verbosity level, to display more detail. More 'v's increase the verbosity level, e.g. '-vv'. Go ahead and keep trying it with increasing numbers of 'v's.)

And if you've got a newer version of Python installed (3.0 or later), launch the Python interactive interpreter and type:
import antigravity

There are lots more, those are just the ones that come to mind off the top of my head.

Edit: Just remembered a couple more:

If you're running the GNOME desktop, hit Alt-F2 and type:
free the fish

If you have OpenOffice 3.1 or older, open the spreadsheet application and enter the following formula in any cell (I believe this one works on the Windows version as well):
=GAME("StarWars")

LibreOffice doesn't have the game. Sad day.

I don't know, I just watched youtube videos of all the easter eggs mentioned and that game looked like it sucked. Although I guess any game is better than no game.

Does that still say "Have you mooed today", or has it been changed?

Yes. It says "Have you mooed today?" underneath an ASCII art picture of a cow. :D

It still says that. Accompanied by an ASCII-art cow.
