SSD deal - closed

Tue Feb 22, 2011 10:23 pm

Save 20% on any SSDs (up to $100 total savings per customer / per order) at Newegg if you received the codes in the e-mail.

For example, you could pick up two 120 GB drives based on the SandForce SATA II controller for $230 x 2 - $92 in savings = $368 or you could pick up one 256 GB Crucial C300 SATA III drive for $510 -$100 in savings = $410.

Edit: Sorry. These codes were non-transferable, unlike the ones that Newegg usually sends me.

Re: 20% off SSDs at Newegg

I get an error on Newegg...

"Although you've entered a valid promo code BTEKHHJ26, your order does not currently meet the code's usage criteria."

I tried it with a Crusial C300 and with 2xNova128 and got the same error.

Edit: That should be Crucial:)

I believe you have to be signed up for their newsletter for the promo codes to work.

You're probably correct, Ben. That's how I got the code. Are the savings worth it for you?

You also cannot stack multiple codes per item, so if you use this one, you cannot use the $25 off [H] code on the OCZ Vertex 2 drive at the same time.

I get the weekly email newsletter, but those deals have codes that start with EM.

I'm registered for the e-mails and tried it, giving me the same message. Not entirely sure whats up, but that would have been my ticket to an SSD ><

I have this email, and these codes work for me (tried RAM and SSD). Sadly, I can't build my Sandy Bridge system that would use the RAM, nor is any SSD so much of a jump from my current one to warrant the upgrade :). Still, I'm considering the Vertex 2 200GB, so that I could shove my Indilinx drive in the workstation I'm building. Hmmm!

I got that one, too, except it was for my video card. Apparently you needed to make a recent purchase of some specific type in order to receive the email.

Picked up this bad boy for $252 shipped!

Can't complain for a 180GB Vertex 2 at that price. Workstation is going to be a little faster now :).

Edit: That's $1.40/GB. Fricking awesome.

I got an email code as well and it works for me, although I am still deciding if I should go through with the purchase.

I want to put the OCZ Vertex 2 in my '09 MacBook pro to replace a 7200 320GB drive. At around $163, that's about $1.35 per gigabyte. Does anyone have experience with SSD's in MacBook pro's? I hear there is no TRIM command, so will I be experiencing some big slowdowns after a few months of use?

You're going to want to do your own research here (and also start a thread in the Apple Sanctuary, if one does not already exist), but basically, if an OS doesn't support TRIM, then you're going to want to use one with very good garbage collection.

Off the top of my head (again, do your own research!), Intel's G1 had great garbage collection because it lacked Trim altogether, and Sandforce based drives, which support Trim, also have better than average garbage collection. OCZ's Vertex 2, as mentioned above, is a Sandforce based drive!
