What game next

Fri Mar 11, 2011 10:25 am

As I sit here almost done completing Borderlands (fantastic game :D ), I sit and look at my Steam list and I wonder to myself which game next. I don't have all the time in the world but I usually can get about 6-8 hours gaming a week. So here is a long list of Steam games I have that I have not played.

And Yet It Moves
Aquaria
The Ball
Beyond Good and Evil
Chains
Chime
Crysis
Crysis Warhead
Far Cry 2
Defense Grid
Gish
GRID
Gumboy Crazy Adventures
Half Life 2 (I know I will play eventually)
IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946
Jolly Rover
Just Cause 2
Lugaru HD
Machinarium
Mafia II
Metro 2033
Minecraft
Mirror's Edge
The Adventures of PB Winterbottom
Obulis
Osmos
Overlord
Overlord II
Penumbra Overture
The Polynomial
Portal
Psychonauts
Puzzle Agent
Puzzle QUest
Recettear: An Items Shops Tale
Stalker: Shadow of Chernoblyl
Civ IV (plus all expansions)
Civ V
Team Fortress 2
Super Meat Boy
Torchlight
Vigil: Blood Bitterness
Warhammer 40000: Dawn of War II
The Witcher
World of Goo

I really like all games and tend to buy way to many of them but usually when they are $5 a piece. I guess I want to know which one I should play next for some different genres:
i.e,
Indie Game:
Puzzle Game:
FPS:

Thanks for the help 8)

If you liked Audiosurf, you should download a demo of The Polynomial and give it a try.

Psychonauts followed by Beyond Good & Evil because if you start up a number of those listed you'll never get to anything else (ie. Civ IV or Minecraft).

Portal was the original "snack-sized" game with AAA production values. You'll finish it in about 3 hours but it'll be worth it, and it really is excellent. Once you've had a snack you can move onto the main course. Of course, I mean Psychonauts - how can you own it and not play it? It's too good to miss out on.

It's on your list so it's gotta be Super Meat Boy! Infuriating awesomeness!

Puzzle Agent was also short.

Defense Grid, Puzzle Quest and World of Goo are simple level-based games that you can pick up, play a level or two, then put down for days or weeks without having to keep track of the plot. Torchlight is mindless enough that the plot doesn't matter. RPGs like The Witcher require a bit more continuity in play.

Beat Hazard. It's a fun game that you can play about 30 mins in a sitting and walk away feeling like you accomplished something :) Plus if you have a good music collection its fun to find what music gives you the best experience

Portal, HL2 and World of Goo.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and The Witcher are great games, but they require time and commitment.

Portal and World of Goo should be your next choice. Both aren't exceptionally complex games so you can play them when you have time, stop for a week and come back without feeling lost. I found both games to be quite fun. As for HL2 I never even finished HL. Something about the game couldn't draw me into it.

Well I have picked up Portal as many of you suggested. Lots of fun already. Reminds me a lot like Braid. Love both games. Audiosurf and Beat Hazard I have played to death as I see some of you mentioned here, but I still play it when I want to kill 10-15 minutes.

I am surprised at the number of indie game recommendations and not really many big titles.

Easily Portal, but if you like stylized games and have a large screen or projector, I found Mirrors Edge to be a great game, although not for everyone. Then of course machinarium and Adventures of PB winterbottom. Obulis and Osmos are good for small time killing a few minutes here and there. Same with World of Goo and Defense Grid.

If you want the "stuff you should've played but doesnt really matter". Crysis + Warhead + Farcry 2. Or at least Crysis if you are thinking of getting Crysis 2.

None of them. I highly recommend Archibald's Adventures. It's a near perfect combination of action and puzzle. If you have to pick from your list, Psychonauts gets my recommendation.

-S.T.A.L.K.E.R Clear Sky
-S.T.A.L.K.E.R Call of Pripyat
-Gears Of War
-F.E.A.R
-F.E.A.R. 2
-Bioshock

S.T.A.L.K.E.R games play best with the Complete Mod. Call of Pripyat Complete mod has been released 2 days ago. There is a bug with the maximum Texture Detail setting which exceeds 3.6GB of RAM and it crashes on start up. It has been mostly found in ATI hardware. Setting to about 80% prevents crashing. Resolution pending.
