Old system had a 3 1/2" floppy. Is that even needed anymore?
For the Intel
Core i5-2500K (or i7-2600K) Sandy Bridge processor, you'll want an LGA1155 motherboard with the Intel P67 chipset. NVidia's licensing requirements limit SLI support to the most expensive motherboards. The
P8P67 Pro may be a good choice for your build.
2x4 GiB of
PC3-12800 or
PC3-10600 should be sufficient for most tasks.
A single SSD (
0.080 to 0.160 TB) for your OS and most-used programs and a 1.0 to 2.2 TB 7200 rpm hard-drive for your larger things may be a good combination of performance and capacity. If your budget doesn't include $150-$250 for an SSD, be sure to get a good hard-drive (
Samsung HD103SJ or Western Digital WD1002FAEX, for example). Consider an external docking bay like the
Thermaltake BlacX USB3 with a
2 TB 5400 rpm drive for backups.
Take a look at the Corsair Hydro series of CPU coolers. If you're just looking for something better than Intel's stock cooler without spending a bunch of money, the
CoolerMaster Hyper 212+ gets positive reviews.
I don't believe that there's any place for floppy diskette drives in a modern PC.
You didn't mention it, but you'll need to purchase Windows 7 (
Home Premium 64-bit OEM for <$100) to make good use of your new gaming PC.
