Why hate the little guys?

Wed Apr 13, 2011 3:01 pm

I found myself in need from the little guys, by that I mean an ITX system. So I set out on my journey only to cross paths with the likes of the Asus E35M1-I DELUXE. Our adventures together have been great thus far and I found myself in need of more tightly packed punch. Nay sayeth Newegg, for we do not carry such a small motherboard anymore! You will have to buy its slightly larger brother and a Micro-ATX case if you wish to partake in the feast of Brazos!

Why the heck did they stop carrying these, ive not found a single place that has them for sale online now. Was there a recall that im unaware of? I thought these were fairly fresh to the market.....?

That's sad that the little guy is deactivated; I love mine so far. Maybe someone else will come out with a silent E350 ITX board with on board wireless :( .

AMD is just maxed out capacity wise and is choosing to supply the big OEMs over the retail channel.
The fusion e and c series also has a new revision coming up with turbo core on the cpu and graphics.

They have the non-deluxe, which looks the same minus the wireless. You could add a $5 USB wifi stick and achieve the same results.

The nice thing about the Asus one that I linked is that it is purely passive. It runs pretty cool in the Antec ISK-300 (65) that I placed it in. I didn't really need the wireless for this particular usage scenario. However I had another customer who was 100% Gung-Ho about getting the Deluxe for his home as he doesn't have internet or a computer and has been without for the last 5 years! So I figured this would have been a nice low cost alternative for someone like him.

Thats not passive, the heatsink is a joke (good luck finding aftermarket for this), a minicard slot is more than a usb port, no bluetooth, no usb3, its not asus.

Some of us are willing to pay for a good design with the right features in one package, its pricey but just about perfect.

I wonder the same thing about a recall, it vanished all at once...about a week or two before I was ready to make my dead silent bedroom streamer/double-duty htpc :(

Newegg will often 'deactivate' items that are simply out of stock and don't have a good ETA...I doubt it was cancelled entirely unless there was a serious design flaw in which case you wouldn't have wanted it anyway.

Nope, its gone everywhere, all the big etailers have none in stock. Dropped off the google radar in no time flat, so I'm leaning (hoping?) towards recall versus a slow depletion of leftover stock.

The few places left that "have it" are the kind with hokey sites that don't report stock (meaning they actually don't have it) or places I wouldn't touch with my credit card on a 10 foot pole.

I'd take a recall over a discontinued, at least it means they will get it right the second time and re-release. There are no other passive options out there (**** atom) and none of the normal aftermarket heatsink guys seem to want to bother with zacate/itx. (aka not paying someone with a miller hundreds of bucks for a one-off)

Oooo. That is a nice board. Too nice to discontinue? God, I hope so.

Got notified of a super short sale in my e-mail, this morning (good through 9:59 a.m. Pacific.)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813130567
It still is missing the wireless and mini-PCIe and an SATA port, but supports twice as much RAM. (16 GiB up from 8.)

I'm starting to lean towards them probably pulling this for some sort of issue. Which is odd because i've had this in at a customers for about 1 week now and no real complaints. The only thing that was noted as being "Slow" was the LAN speed when trying to page through a FOXPRO 6 based program that is on the server. The one 350 I put in ran great and after a few hours on the network it was slow JUST for that one function. The second was also fast and snappy, the second day when I came back they pointed out that it was equally as slow when requesting information over the LAN. All other functions seem to be amazingly fast and snappy. Both of the systems have 4gigs worth of Corsair DDR1333 (I believe it brought it down to 1066 /shrug, no biggie)

Either way, im thinking they may have other issues that i'm unaware of... When googling around earlier to see if there was something about them, it appeared as though Asus released a BIOS update for this particular board. According to other posters, there was no information on Asus' website regarding what was fixed. Perhaps they don't want to admit to having released the boards with a major flaw and are in turn requesting them back to flash with this update?

Hopefully we see them on selves again because I had to take our shop ones to give to this customer and I really want to build 2 more of them for the shop! If anyone comes across some major updates on this board, please let all of us know.

BTW.... The early Socket A Duron's called and wants its heatsink fan back from that MSI Zacate board you link :P

I know, i'm going to Necro this one. Just because I had a few of you asking about why these were gone just like I did.

Looks like Asus got its act together or its parts from Japan finally. The Asus E35M1-I Deluxe is now available on Newegg and other retailers.

I've purchased 3 more since they've come back online, no noticeable changes to the board, but I will check in detail (caps, bios revision, ect). I'll let you guys know if there are any changes between the pre and post sell-out period.
