Browser on an iPhone/iPod

Wed Apr 13, 2011 5:55 pm

Any recommendations on what alternative browser to use for the iPhone/iPod? In the 6-months I've had my iPod Touch, I've been unimpressed and have come to detest Safari. Among other things, I wish it would save webpages in the memory, if even one or two; I assume it doesn't because users who left several pages open would become frustrated that their devices came to a crawl from bloated memory and wouldn't know why.

It seems like other features, like being able to print pages to files and just better browser controls make surfing the internet more appealing and easier.

I've heard good thing about Opera-Mini and Vanilla Surf

Opera Mini is the only one I could really suggest.

I was trying Opera-Mini and it seemed noticeably sluggish on certain Wi-fi networks, but I love how it handles the tabbed browsing. It doesn't have as many options for how to handle new pages and other miscellaneous tweaks, however.

I was using Vanilla Surf for a few days and while I enjoyed the plethora of options and the speed, the tabbed/multiple page browsing experience was too similar to Safari. Also, it kept wanting to minimize my pages to only half of my screen, to which I'd have to keep zooming back in to restore. I'm not sure if this was a feature of a glitch but I could live without it.

It's a bit a of a toss up at the moment, but I think Opera-Mini pulls ahead simply for the tabbing experience.

That's odd.

I wish I could find something more up to date for you. I always felt it was pretty fast though. The tabbed browsing on Opera is the best I've seen on mobile though.

It would take you 2,363 continuous hours or 98 days,11 hours, and 35 minutes of gameplay to complete your Steam library.
In this time you could travel to Venus one time.

I do love the tabbed browsing the the bookmark layout, which pushes me to use this over VSurf.

No such thing as an alternative browser on iOS right now. Apple does not permit other browsers. Opera for iOS is a piece of crud. It's fast and ok for reading text, but does not work well / properly with websites having significant javascript, dynamic css3, etc.

Opera-Mini is having a lot of problems connecting to public Wi-Fi's at the moment. A quick search shows that others are having the problem as well.

Anyone here?
