iPhone battery replacement plan -- worth it?

Sat Apr 23, 2011 9:34 pm

Just curious if anyone here has the AppleCare protection plan for their iPhone. It seems like a good idea, if just for the battery replacement. I have to charge my battery every day, so I doubt it'll last until my contract is up and I can get a new phone. Thoughts?

What is it, 60 bucks for an extra year? I think if you have an Apple store in close proximity it's worth it. From what I hear, as long as you're within warranty and, the service in Apple stores is pretty dang good.

I looked into it a while back, but elected against it. If you read the fine print, battery replacement is only available when the battery dips below half power: "service coverage is available for battery depletion of 50 percent or more from original specification." Not sure how Apple measures this, also not sure how picky they are about it. I bet it's pretty easy to get replaced. However, after heavy use for 20 months, my iPhone 3GS battery is still definitely above 50 percent, so I would be nervous about getting stuck with a prick at the Genius Bar. I'm sure other forums discuss the battery issue in more-depth. Just something to think about before dropping the money down, especially if you're not adverse to contract extensions and discount phone upgrades to keep up with the Jobs'

Darn, I was hoping some other Gerbils might have first-hand experience with the replacement plan. Anybody?

it's not expensive to replace
you dont need a warranty specifically for the battery
