More memory deals. 8GB of DDR 1333 for $70?

Thu May 12, 2011 1:16 pm

Looks like new egg has some G.Skill 2x4GB Kits here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231417

Normally go for 84.99

Promo Code: EMCKEKD36 takes $15 off.

That's TODAY ONLY. Deal ends on 5/12

That's 2x4GB of DDR 1333 for $70.

Not sure if you'd call that a Hot Deal, certainly seems to pale a little compared to the recent deals posted here (by JAE), but still seems pretty sweet.

1. I guess the big question is, should I pull the trigger? I do kind of regret not hopping on one of the earlier deals posted and getting 2x4 GB PC 1600 for 70 or less, but I was also still working out my build budget and trying to figure out what I wanted to spend on.

2. TR had an article exploring the effect of memory speed on Sandy Bridge builds suggests that spending $70 for DDR 1333, is about as good as spending $70 for DDR 1600. In which case, I shouldn't feel ok with pulling the trigger, yes?

3. New Egg seems to have deals on memory every week or so. They're still pretty frequent, which is why I didnt pull the trigger earlier (planning my build to happen around September or so). I figure there will be other chances later, perhaps on brands/modules I want more. Of course, im asking myself that same question now. Does it make sense to wait, if there will probably be more sales later?

I can't imagine IB having anything less than 1600 std. I'd wait another week or two for a 1600 1.5V kit.

e: I say IB because if you choose to upgrade later then you will already have memory that operates at stock 1600 @ 1.5V. Just give it a few weeks and you should find something really nice. Maybe even this weekend. I think BD uses 1866? so I feel it's a good idea to get something 1600MHz+. Just for "future-proofing."

That's a good deal (I paid $74.99 for a Corsair 1600 C9 1.5v kit earlier), but after seeing that G.Skill has a Sniper kit that's 1600 C8 1.35v, I'll be waiting for those to go on sale.

...and subsequently pumping 1.6v through them to see how much they like 2.0GHz... :)

LOL. So you and Jack both think "that's a good deal" but given that im not building till later, it may be worth waiting to see what else comes up?

I think that it's an OK deal in lieu of a good deal :).

Wait for something faster, given that the sales seem to roam between lower end stuff and higher end stuff.

The DDR 1600 version of those snipers were on sale a few weeks ago for around $60 a set after a %15 off code (2 x 4g). Got me 2 sets of those at that price, 16gb! :) I'd wait and see if they drop again.
