Corsair Hydro Series

Thu May 19, 2011 9:34 am

Are there any advantages or disadvantages to each model?

H50
H60
H70

I know a few people here have at least two of these models. I think Air has the H60 and JAE has the H70 or H50. I can't remember. I'd like to get one of these and wanted first hand impressions. I have an Antec 300 case. That may rule out the H70, I'm not sure. I'm not too interested in overclocking, but am looking into these coolers to keep my CPU cooler, my case cooler, and keep things quiet. Please give me your observations folks.

I'll second this request. I too have an Antec 300 and have been considering one of these highly regarded liquid cooling systems for purposes of silence.

Radiator clearance is an issue. I could not install the H70 into my Antec P193 due to side fan intrusion. Confirm that it will fit you case before you buy.

I've got two H70s (dual X5650s) in a Corsair 700D. The system is at 100% CPU 24/7 and it is super quiet (quiet enough to sit next to my HDTV).

I have the H50 in an Antec 900 case. Absolutely love it. First time I turned it on it made a slight gurgle sound and I haven't heard a peep from it since. CPU runs cool and everything is quiet. The directions say to use the fan as an intake fan on the rear, which is opposite of the way the case was designed. I've heard of several people running it as an exhaust fan too. Either way, it seems to be doing an excellent job.

Despite the numbering scheme the H60 is the latest model and I've read that it was made for Sandy Bridge, although it also works on other platforms.

Another benefit is that it allows room for ram with the tall heat spreaders.

Is there really any design differences between the H50 and H60 that affect performance though?

If someone could point me to a detailed review comparison, that'd be great too.

All the reviews I've seen show the h60 to perform a couple degrees better than the h50. The pump/waterblock has a much lower profile. Its cheaper than the h50 on the egg and has a $15 MIR currently. I picked one up a couple weeks ago and haven't installed it yet, but my rebate just got sent out so you should have good luck gettinh your money back.

The Corsair Hxx heatsinks get outperformed by the better air coolers of the same price or cheaper, so they're pretty pointless unless you want them for clearance issues (e.g. cooling a SFF case). If you really want water cooling, you need to get or build a kit with a proper radiator and reservoir.

I just got an H60. H70 was too expensive and H50 too old. I attached a second fan to my H60, it now has the usual push/pull mode. It's very quiet, much quieter than my Zalman 8700. Temps on my stock clocked PhII 945 95W fell a few degrees to about 20C which is even a bit lower than room temp. Also, full load temp was 28C which is freakin' awesome. OC time!

You can say that again about the P193, I couldnt even get my Coolermaster V8 aircooler inside without modding the side panel. For now I just ripped out the fan and inside cowling and took a pair of rubber feet to use as standoffs for the screws, but my thought is to build a inch-wide external funnel with the same shape as the external plate, then a new flat internal mounting plate instead of the one intruding. That should put the fan and inside cowling flush with the panel instead of one inch inside.

Actually, I've read reviews that rated the Antec Kuhler 620 as a better buy.

For $55 dollars after MIR shipped to your home, I don't really see a better deal if you overclock or don't want a heavy air cooler. Plus it just got upped to a 5 year warranty.
