Not sure what client(s) to get

Wed Jun 01, 2011 4:09 pm

I was wondering if there was any client for a high end GPU (I have GPU 3 installed) and a 6 core cpu
If not can you install multiple clients
so like the GPU 3 one as well as V6 Beta SMP2/CPU client and will they run together?

As long as you use team 2630 your points will be counted towards the TR team. If you use the username UnitedGerbilNation your points will show up under that name. You're plenty welcome to use your own username. Just remember team 2630.

It is definitely possible to run SMP and GPU3 client together. I think the GPU client needing a full CPU core still applies (or you can test if the points drop is worth it in the end by giving that extra core to SMP), so you can do -smp 5 and then one instance of GPU client.

If you do run the SMP client, then you'll want to get the UnitedGerbilNation passkey to be credited with its bonus points. Flying Fox or some other member of the UGN team can PM you with it.

And if you want to fold under your own name, be sure to get your personal passkey from Stanford's site and fold 10 SMP work units before seeing the bonus.

Welcome to team Tech Report! Thank you for donating your heavy duty hardware and electricity to the F@H project.

This time of year it is especially important to keep a close watch on component temperatures as folding will push them to their upper limit. I usually run my CPU fan at 100% and my GPU fan at 67%, but you will need to find your comfort zone balance of temperature verses fan noise for your components.

Also be prepared for some electric bill shock. The following numbers are ballpark, but should be fairly close. While folding, your hardware should draw about 400 watts more than it does at idle which is a kilowatt hour every two and a half hours or about ten kilowatt hours per day. If your electricity billing rate is ten cents per kilowatt hour you will see about a thirty dollar increase in your bill. Also the heat generated will increase your air conditioning cost a bit.

Again, Thank you for helping Stanford and team Tech Report research causes and cures for improperly folded protein based diseases.
