Bad adapter?

Wed Jun 22, 2011 3:59 pm

Hey TR,

My family has an old PC from 2005 that works fine for the most part, but a few months ago the network adapter started to go. Every time you started the computer you had to reset the adapter, and then it worked. About a month ago it gave up the ghost entirely and I ordered a new adapter from Newegg. It was a Startec with ~30 5 star reviews for $12, so I snapped it up. Today though it won't connect to the internet. The Network and Sharing Center screen on Windows 7 showed that it couldn't identify the network. Other computers are hooked up to the same router and working fine. Did the adapter die or is it something else?

Thanks in advance,
Drew

try a different PCI slot
make sure you delete and reinstall any drivers
your motherboard could be dying as well

just brew it!

Could also be the port on the network switch.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
