I've got a wireless-G modem/router (WGR) and a wireless-N router (WNR). At the moment things look like this:

'The Cloud' --> WGR (192.168.1.1/24) --> WAN port on WNR (192.168.0.1/24).

WGR is a DHCP server and WNR is a DHCP client. WGR has wired and wireless connections. WNR is purely wireless, bar the patch cable.

I wonder if I'd be better served by going LAN-LAN rather than LAN-WAN. And/or should I be subnetting in some different way?

The reason I'm asking is because the net's been a bit iffy recently and while I'm tinkering around I may as well do the best thing possible.

Any ideas?

Turn off the DHCP server on the WNR and go LAN-LAN then everything is on the same subnet and WNR is just working as an access point, otherwise your WNR clients are going through two levels of NAT and may have difficulty talking to clients of WGR.

also put a piece of tape over the WNR's WAN port to avoid accidental connections unless you have custom firmware that lets you turn it into a LAN port.

Good idea re: the tape.

I wanted to say the home network has been working better than it has in years since the LAN-LAN change (and a few tweaks, updated firmware, etc.).
