Sound is Echoing please help

Postposted on Wed Jul 27, 2011 4:56 pm

I am running win 7 64 bit and have a pair old Altec Lansing speakers (two plus sub woofer) plugged into the mobo sound jack in my desktop. Last week I began using a USB Headset for voip. After disconnecting the headset the sound now echoes on my speakers. Everything sounds like it's coming out of a cave or echo chamber. Please help with a step by step cure. I can't enjoy any games or music now.

have you checked if for some random reason environment effects didnt turn on? that would usually be the reason echo turns up. the usb shouldn't have anything to do with the internal mobo sound

Sorry but I don't know where "environment sounds" are? How can I find those settings? However I was not experimenting with any sound settings.

Thanks for your help.

Methods for adjusting DSP (digital sound processing) effects are normally handled by a utility specific for your sound card. Look in the task bar at the bottom right-hand corner of your screen to see if there are any utilities for adjusting sound properties. Note that you are looking for something other than the mixer/volume control (speaker icon). You could also try looking in the control panel. Since you are using Windows 7, change the view to "small icons" so you can see all the control panel options at once. Look for an icon that might be a utility for your sound card. Baring this, I would suggest starting by going to the motherboard manufacturer's website to look for any manuals/instructions specific to your motherboard related to sound.

Sorry, but unless you can be more specific regarding which motherboard or the audio chip it uses, it is difficult to guess how one might remedy your situation.

semi forgot about this post, but just going to assume you are running a realtek audio type motherboard, it would have a icon something like the speaker on your task bar, and the environment effects would be something like this image(random google find).
Also, if you dont know the maker of the board, at least post who made the computer and what model number they put on the front of it. ie: HP Pavillion XXXXX

Do you have any microphones plugged in? If you have microphone playback not muted, it could be picking up your speaker output and feeding it back.
