Looks like a solid build!

Do you think the power supply may be a bit much for the system?

Yeah, that PSU is a bit much. I have the X650 and it's much more than I need - you can't beat the SS X-series for quality though.

Same here, with a pair of HD6950's. Though I can understand the reasoning if he wishes to put another GTX570 in there in the future, as they do draw a little more under load.

Have you considered one of the self-contained cpu water cooling kits like Corsair Hydro Series or Antec Kuhler? They would make a nice addition to your setup.

Ok , just got it running , a few things to mention.

The case is HUGE.

The PSU like most of you said too much , the fan hardly comes on , the only complaint is the threads that hold the PSU stripped out.
I had the same problem with an OCZ unit also.

I did not know I could not use a CD with a BDR 206DBK , I been out the loop for a while guess I will have to buy an additional drive just of CDs.

The stock heat sink was not a pain like it always and the video card is almost as big as the case.

I really enjoyed putting another machine together , I just hated hitting the power button and you get a black screen.

mobo cable not secured.

Can you tell me how much you like the Seasonic X-series psu? I've had my eye on that one and the Corsair X series.
Thanks

Plenty of Power quality product , I did say I had mounting issues but that was my fault , used the wrong screws.

I ran the PSU calculator for my system , told me 550 w was needed for a 90% load.
The fan barely comes on with this thing , there are reviews show they put upwards
of 990w through it.

In short get it , you will love it.

Do you just need to try a different media brand?

Just purchased the Corsair Hydro Series , I am not fighting the Intel push pins anymore.

I'd have loved to have sold or traded you the XFX 750 watt PSU that I won from TR. It's way too much PSU for my needs.

I think the x 850 will come in handy if I had another 570.

Yeah, I realize I am responding to a post that is a few weeks old, but this comment caught my eye.

In 15+ years of futzing around with PCs and countless PSU installations, I've *never* had the threads on the mounting holes of a PSU strip. Either A) Seasonic and OCZ are using thinner/softer metal these days; or B) you're cranking the screws down way too tight.

Keep in mind that with a typical PSU you're putting screws into holes that have been tapped in a piece of sheet metal; they're not designed to take a lot of stress. Tighten the screws just enough to hold the PSU firmly in place.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Check out the previous post JBI , I was able to get two of the right screws in there tight to hold it in place , I think I might have wacked the other
two by using the wrong screws.

I actually took two out of another machine I am not using to make it work , never could find the ones that came with the unit.

Through tomorrow, NewEgg has the Seasonic X-750 on sale for $139.99 with coupon. I was really tempted (due to the increased efficiency) but couldn't really justify it when I have a great 750w unit I got for a bargain price two years ago.

You don't need the 850, and that 750 unit is the same price as the Seasonic X-650 with the coupon. I know what I'd get.

Have you ever owned a power supply for seven years?

With respect, I think any power supply that lasts five (if you own it that long) will last seven. Most warranty failures I've seen with electronic equipment made by a reputable vendor (like either of these) happen within the first several months due to a defect that is revealed when the unit is placed under load.

Note that the Corsair is a Seasonic X-Series built for Corsair.

Dunno... a fair percentage of the PSU failures I've experienced have been in the 1-3 year range (failing capacitors and fans).

Regardless, I agree with you that the marginal value of a 7 year vs. 5 year warranty is negligible.
