had a silenX fan that i bought as a replacement for my cpu heatsink and it initially didnt work but after i heated up the probe with a lighter and reinstalled it, it worked for about a month then its rpms slowly diminished over a 3 day period and the only way to get it to spin is to actually stick the probe directly in a lighters flame. never going to buy one form them again

Go Noctua - quite and worth the money.

Same thing here. I bought a SilentX heatsink/fan and the fan seized up after about 2 months. Luckily my Phenom II 550 BE ran cool enough so it didn't fry before I noticed it.

Scythe has replaced their S-Flex line with the Kama Flow 2 line, which supposedly has Enhanced fluid-dynamic bearings that improve on the (already good) S-Flex FDBs. Scythe's Gentle Typhoon fans are also very good.

As for SilenX, I have exactly one, a 60mm I got for my media extender. I'm not impressed. The startup voltage was high, considering the low RPM, and so it didn't work for me. I had to remove it and put in something else. I have not heard good things about their reliability from others, either.

OK, so since this thread has turned into a 'recommended 120mm fan' thread, I want to put two quiet fans on a HyperMaster 212+ to get some additional cooling on my oc'd i2600k. What would be the best option for the money? A couple of Slip Stream Kaze Juni 800 or 1200rpm fans would be about the right price and seem like they would be quite quiet. The Karma Flex and Karma Flow fans are twice the price and seem much noisier, would they be worth the money? Is there a better option?

The Slipstreams are sleeve-bearing, and probably will not have the longevity of the Kama Flow 2 fans.

Sleeve bearing fans are the last one I would use on a heatsink if I could help it. Always go with a ball bearing or fluid bearing fan, takes a long time for them to wear out. I have some panaflo fluid bearing fans that are 10 years old and still going strong.
