Bitcoins and TR

Sun Aug 21, 2011 3:47 pm

Hi all, I'm posting in the GFX section because GPUs compute well with bitcoins.

Does TR have a bitcoin pool? Any interest in setting one up? A lot of ppl seem here to have powerful gfx setups, this seems like a good way to use some of the spare cycles.

Just a thought...

I have serious doubts that they will be viable long-term. The recent hack attack on the main Bitcoin exchange, and the appearance of botnets that steal people's CPU cycles to mine Bitcoins and Bitcoin-stealing trojans do not inspire confidence.

(FWIW we've discussed Bitcoins previously in the R&P forum...)

FWIW, regarding the matter at hand, it's not worth the power expense. I did some GPU mining (pooled) and quickly concluded that the rate of discovery was not worth the power invested. Unless Bitcoins have massive valuation in the future (not very likely).
