From Native IDE to AHCI

Postposted on Thu Sep 22, 2011 4:04 am

Hi, recently I changed my hdd to boot in ACHI mode instead of IDE Native mode however my hdd is showing as an external hdd now. My mobo is MA785GM-US2H

My question is how to make it boot in AHCI mode and not show as external hdd. Do I need to reinstall the OS or is there a way without reinstalling the OS? Thanks

The reason, why the drive "show as an external HDD", I believe is because AHCI allows for hot-swapping drives, ie. you can replace the drive without turning the computer off (similar to an external drive in that regard). So it's normal.

That said, I don't know if there are any way to disable the hot-swapping feature, so that the drives won't show up there with the other replaceable media.

If you're using the MS AHCI driver, see here. I'm not sure what the registry keys are for the AMD driver.
