Parents want to get this for a pc... Is it compatible?

Tue Oct 04, 2011 2:10 pm

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBund ... mbo.719542

Edit: If any of you have suggestions for a build under $300 I would be more than willing to listen. The only thing my parents are really looking for is atleast 1TB on a HDD.

Welcome to the forums.

One thing: that is a nice start to your parent's new PC. The problem is is that there are some desktops that retail for about $300 that could meet their needs a little better.... and those prebuilts include a legitimate copy of Windows 7. Of course support would not be your problem either.

Is it compatible? Absolutely YES.

Do you know what brand the desktops are? I can usually solve the problems that arise with their computer.

Edit: I have two legit copies of w7 pro. I told my parents when the System building guide with "The Vespa" in it that they should buy it however they are rather hardheaded.

Actually, you're right. Continue with your present purchase from Newegg.

Wow, a 1tb drive request from your parents ?? They must have a helluva DVD collection ! My parents could make do with a 120gb drive easily.

That combo looks fine for a parent build. *thumbs up*

Looks...okay to me. I'm not sure what your parents are going to do with an Phenom x4 and 1.5tb of hard drive. Personally I would think an Athlon x3 450 and 500gb would more than suffice for any "typical" parents. Even then, the only reason I say 500gb is that there is no tangible savings to be had by buying hard drives smaller than 500gb these days.

However, the combo deal you have there saves you more than purchasing a more "fitting" computer by buying separate parts so go for it. Therefore consider my comments purely educational.
