Good source for Brother toner cartridges?

Postposted on Sun Oct 09, 2011 8:27 pm

I'm needing to pick up some toner for my new Brother printer. Any good or bad experiences with non-Brother toners? Who's good to buy from? I'd buy the name-brand and be done with it, but Newegg's got the TN450 cart for $42.49 and Rosewill-brand equivalent for $30, Mwave's got own-brand for $18, and Amazon's got this:

http://www.amazon.com/Compatible-Brothe ... B0050NNUB8

for $13. $13 is pretty hard to argue with unless it's going to give me bad print quality and/or spew toner all over the printer, but I don't know if this is a good brand or not.

Also, is it generally worthwhile to get remanufactured carts instead of generics?

Laser toner printer carts, especially ones from third parties, are usually hit or miss, but they're great value. Perfect for printing tons of documents that don't really need print press-quality, like school or office reports and other day-to-day stuff. :D

They're prone to having grayer-than-usual blacks, for one, and the output may not necessarily be the same in quality as your original Brother toner cart. This is especially true when using the "econo" modes most laser printers have. I've never seen a third-party cart, refilled or remanufactured, match the "blackness" of the originals under econo mode, but that's just me. The worst ones can smudge or have faint vertical banding, but thankfully, those were isolated cases and had more to do with the quality of the actual remanufactured cartridge than the toner powder itself. This has been my experience using remanufactured HP and Samsung laser toner carts, but YMMV.

That being said, the Amazon link you gave is not really an Amazon product per se, it's a reseller selling through Amazon's website. LinkYo is also the same guys as the ones behind SuperMediaStore.com They have an A+ with BBB: http://www.la.bbb.org/business-reviews/Computer-Equipment-Parts-and-Supplies-Retail/LinkYo-Corporation-in-La-Puente-CA-13204885

I'd say they're probably worth a try (they're a great source for Taiyo Yuden recordable optical media back in the day), although the Mwave own-brand seems promising, too.

i bought a brother toner from amazon. i did not go with the third party one because they got some bad reviews. plus when you compare the amazon price to sam's or office depot, you save over $20.

I go here. Good prices, and shipping is free on toner cartridges.
