Dude, start playing around, you can't really hurt it unless you mess with the voltages. If you're hoping to find a way to simply jump to the highest clock-speed, you're not going to find it. Every chip has a different limit, no matter how many links are posted, you're still going to have to OC by some miniscule amount at a time then testing it, that's how overclocking works.
EDIT: If that wasn't confirmation then yeah, you're modifying the bus speed. As you read more about this, you can tweak the ram settings to get a higher overclock, but you can read and read and read, but there's a point where you have to dive in and from experience add to your learning on how to tweak further.
