Back to the fold tomorrow night, bringing a bulldozer

Tue Oct 18, 2011 6:14 pm

Well, I'm finally replacing my system (it had some cooling issues that precluded me from getting back to folding) but it's time I start doing this again. Might even buy a new GPU thats better for folding than my 4890 (which probably cant even fold)

(we can all then begin shaming Bulldozer folding results)

Welcome back! You can definitely use the rest of this month to stress test the Bulldozer under Frankie. ;)

Once I get an OC locked in and stable (looks like some are doing nearly 5 on air) I'll jump in

And nothing confirmed for it, but prior to release it was getting a lot of hype at being good.
Unfortunatly I bought the FX-6100 and wont be jumping into the big WUs

1685 ppd based on the 15 min ive been running P7146, assuming thats a 585 point unit. This isnt with a monitor-based number, just me doing the math based on the time steps are taking. Steps are every 5-6 min @ 4.2 ghz

Calculating it by hand like that won't take into account any early return bonus. Actual points scored can be several times that once the bonus is taken into account.

Edit: Don't forget to use a passkey. IIRC you need to use a passkey (and return a certain number of completed WUs) to start qualifying for the bonus points.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

This is one way to calculate the points you'll get: SMP2 bonus point calculator.

As for the new FAHmon, there's one linked somewhere in the Distributed Computing subforum, called HFM.NET, but be warned it seems to have a memory leak and on my old livingroom laptop I have to quit and restart it every once in a while to get things working properly again without extended disk swapping.

My HFM.net v0.4.8 seems pretty stable. You can try FAH GPU Tracker as well (this one also manages the Folding clients so it is a bit more heavy handed, but you can set it to monitor game exe loading to pause the GPU client, can be a useful feature).

If your userid is new, remember you have to complete 10 WUs with the passkey before the bonus kicks in.

My username is actually just very old - Im not sure how many passkey attempts I got in very briefly during my short comeback a while ago.

That's why I suggested Frankie, we know that works, and you can help make him scary for the month while you are testing! ;)

Yeah, can you PM me the passkey? I'll jump on once I find my own passkey again so im not worried about losing it.

Mine claims to be v0.6.2 (says: Built on Monday, 07 March 2011, which matches what his web site says) and though it never evidenced any problem on a modern machine, my old laptop has but 256 MB SDRAM, and I run it when I'm not near any other machine but want to monitor my folding boxes. And on that machine, eventually after a few hours, the problem shows up. I close and re-open it, and the problem stops.
