Modern Warfare 3

Wed Nov 09, 2011 12:01 pm

Am I the only one who is actually impressed with this game? Yes, it's still the same old COD that many of us have grown to hate, but for a console shooter this one has definitely brought more to the table than ”oh look at my pretty gold famas.” They have also brought in an impressive array of modern weapons and tech that are (god forbid) actually used on the battlefield today. The killstreaks and perks have been reworked and I really like the concept of leveling up specific weapons. I haven't had a chance to play the new gametypes yet but they seem interesting enough. Graphics are improved. Not a huge jump but animations are definitely more smooth and lifelike. Overall I think this is the best installment of (modern) Call Of Duty thus far.

oh right, the campaign. typical MW stuff so far. No big surprises.

Based on the Modern Warfare 3 metacritic user score, yes. Yes you are.

That's... refreshing. Maybe there's hope for humanity yet.

the amazon user scores are better but it still has a 2.5 out of 5 star average. I'm probably going to get uncharted before getting this game. I'll get COD but I'm not jumping up and down to get it.

The game need to change the FOV on PC from that puke inducing 60 to something normal. Somewhere over 90 for the widescreen resolutions.

Impressed was the wrong word. I'm IMPRESSED with BF3. But I can't really afford a proper system and I refuse to buy it for the 360. That said MW3 is a fun game imo. I think people are expecting a certain level of realism which COD has never been about.

I watched my flatmate play MW3 for a couple of hours last night, and really it looks like little more than a mod. I guess the same could be said about most of the COD franchise, but really there are so many games in the series now there isn't much room to innovate. Xbox360 obviously being the limiting factor in the equation.

The main good things I noticed was that it actually shows your killstreak count and it's easier to compare weapon attributes in the menu. Also you dont have to use your killstreak to access a higher level one, you can toggle them instead which is nice. e.g. you used to have to use up your spy plane before your could call a chopper gunner.

Overall not it doesnt really jump out to me as a must have game, it's just COD in a new flavour. And some of the sniper rifles seem a bit too easy to use too.

There is hope for this world yet. Even the console versions are getting savaged in the Metacritic user ratings.
