How hot is to hot? *XFX 6950 2GB*

Tue Nov 22, 2011 11:15 am

That is the question.
How hot can these cards run?
I'm not having any heat issues.
This is my 1st "mega" card
Previous cards 3850/4850 always ran in the 50C/60C range
This is with fan set to auto, playing BF3

Case has good air flow.
This is with my 6850

Not a problem. GPUs are made to run hotter, so I wouldn't worry about anything under 80C, especially if you're not having crashes or artifacts.

If it's below 80 under load you're absolutely fine.

While 80C isn't hot enough to *fry* an egg, it is indeed hot enough to *cook* it (heating an egg to 70C will "set" the egg protein).

Edit: Reminds me of this "oldie but goodie".

I ran a ATI HD5830 for a while crunching bitcoins and it ran at about 75-76 C with stock speeds.
On the Nvidia side, my 460 runs around 70-80 C when gaming, and seems stable.

With a stock setup, anything under 80C is in the comfortably cool range. For example, the stock HD4850 scored a nice 87C at load in TR's review, a temperature that ATI apparently felt was ok. I wouldn't worry too much about it. If it gets to 90C while gaming, you might want to clean the heatsink out though.
