Seasonic X-Series x50-line vs x60-line

Fri Nov 25, 2011 11:13 pm

So there is apparently the older X-Series 650 and 750 and the newer tier of X-Series 560, 660, 760, and 850.

I'm confused about the differences (I only see a bit of difference on the -12v) and about why Newegg et al. are selling the the newer 560 and 850 but also the older 650 and 750, and they list the newer 660 and 760 as deactivated.

What's the deal? Marketing wizards are clearly at work!

While both are solid, the x60 line is better under transient loads. The one issue with the x50 line is that it doesn't do so well in that department. It's not huge in most cases, but it is the one weakness in an otherwise perfect power supply.

The x60 series addresses that issue. If you can get an x50 series on a great deal, it's still worth doing (I did it). However, if the X50 and x60 are similarly priced, get the x60.

I see! I'm also confused as to why Newegg lists the 660 and 760 as deactivated; maybe there's just a stock issue?

I just looked, and NCIX US is selling the 660 for $100 for the holidays... I think I'm gonna buy it!

The `Egg has had issues keeping the x60 line in stock, I believe. Either way, I've seen them list product as "deactivated" when they're just having trouble getting stock.

The X750 was on sale there for $109 though, an incredible deal. It can be overkill though, and the 660 is a great choice too.
