Oh man...

Back in the day, when it would run for more than a few minutes without crashing, it was amazing. Huge and deep and sprawling, with so many weird locations and crazy treasures to get. Serpent Isle was just even more crazy. WARNING: These are not games to play without a Walkthrough handy, unless you want to spend a hundred hours wandering around.

Don't know how stable the GoG download is, but you can always give it a whirl.

P.S. I thought Ultima VI was the best one.

U7 was one of the best RPG games back in the day, although all the DOS specialized coding has always made this game a huge pain to run in windows. I got my old copy working with DOSbox, but it was never what you could call stable. If they got this thing running right and well, it is totally worth buying. I started playing Ultima with number 4 back in the 80's on a friends C64, I eventually ended up buying my own copy...which amazingly still works when I was playing it on my C64 last year...not bad for a 25 year old 5 1/4 floppy.

Use Exult.

http://exult.sourceforge.net/

You just install exult and then point it at your Blackgate and Serpents Ilse directory.
