Wasn't sure if this was the right forum for this, as I'm just dealing with cooling. My friend has a Gateway HTPC that he bought a few years ago that has been overheating (looking around online this is a common problem with them). The reason for this is because Gateway did not include any case fans. There are mounts for a 120mm and 80mm fan, and I'm helping him with finding and installing them (not hard, but he's not used to poking around inside his computer).

So my question is what are some good brands for fans out there? Sound level is no concern for him, it's just got to move a lot of air (his GPU gets quite hot). Thanks for any recommendations!

I've had good luck with Panaflo 80mm and Scythe S-Flex 120mm fans.

Can't go wrong with a FREE case fan. Xigmatek is my company of choice for CPU coolers. Their fans get good reviews as well.

Enermax would be my second choice. They have stellar build quality and offer very good airflow/noise ratio.

Newegg doesnt seem to be stocking their fans much anymore but that 120mm Magma ought to do the trick.. Amazon has almost their whole lineup.

Just pay attention to the CFM ratings if you are interested in brute air movement. Realize that some of the higher CFM fans are quite thick and may cause clearance problems because of that.

I like Scythe and Thermaltake fans myself. I favor 120mm over 80mm since you have the option.

Jury's still out on Scythe (I haven't been using them long enough to personally comment on reliability), but I'd say reliability of Thermaltake's fans is below average.

I'm approaching 5 years 24/7 with 6 SFF-21Fs in my box with nary an issue.
