Klipsch HD1000 5.1 HT speakers, deal or scam?

Sun Dec 18, 2011 7:15 pm

So I am looking to put together an HT setup for my older sister and my brother-in-law.

I've already purchased a receiver http://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-TX-NR609-Ch ... 327&sr=8-1, and am now looking into getting a nice set of speakers to match it.

Klipsch has always been one of my favorite names in sound, and when I was looking through amazon I came across these http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-HD1000-Ch ... 719&sr=1-1.

At $400 that seems like a deal that may be a bit too good to be true... so what gives? The HD 1000's are wonderfully reviewed from what I can tell, and there are so many great things to be said about them... so why are they at such an entry level price?

I've done some research and found that all sites that are selling this speaker set at the ~$400 price range have been doing there business through a distributor named "onecall". Has anyone had experience with this company? If it was a scam of sorts (selling refurbed products or counterfeits as new) would Amazon handle the situation well?

Thanks for the advice!!! I'm just afraid of falling for a deal that is too good to be true haha :-)!

Can't speak for the seller, though their Amazon ratings seem good enough, but the speakers remind me of the old Pro Media's. Ignore the MSRP value they use to calculate the savings. It's as bogus as "peak music power" ratings are. All in all, it seems to be about the right price point, assuming Klipsch quality is still what it used to be.

Onecall is not a scam. They have been around for a long time and are a reliable seller. I have purchased several things from them in the past few years without issue.

I think it's just the fact that they're a little bit older that's making them a bit cheaper than expected. Not a bad deal though.

This item was discontinued by Klipsch. It is correspondingly listed in the "clearance" section of the Onecall website. So, either Onecall stocked this item prior to its discontinuance and had a large inventory left over, or possibly, they negotiated with Klipsch or a major retailer to buy out surplus inventory. Either way, they are now selling out the remaining stock, and as you discovered, they seem to be the only seller that still has it available.

Main thing you might want to verify is whether or not this item will still carry a valid Klipsch warranty.

Thanks all for the speedy replies :-)! Didn't realize these were discontinued... I am tempted to snag them but will see what my friend (the true sound connoisseur) has to say. In the meantime, does anyone know of some good rear wireless speakers for a HT setup?

Yep, OneCall is a major retailer-- definitely legit.

Not sure how these compare to say the Energy Take 5 Classic, tho.
