Fractal Core 1000 Mod

Tue Dec 06, 2011 12:01 pm

Recently finished my SFF gaming rig, modded the case - made psu/odd bay cover and clear side panel, also modified front panel and sleeved all cables :)

Nice work. The Apollish cpu fan is a nice touch, but why didn't you continue that theme on the front and rear fans as well?

I recently built a system for a family member using this case and I was amazed at the build quality and features at its price point. I noticed that the stock hhd "panel" is gone, do you have any better picutres that show up under that cowling? It looks like you may have mounted the hard drive in the ODD bay?

I think you need a new camera, the pictures came out all tilty ;)

Seems like a pretty nice budget case, the only things less expensive are cases that are truly cheap. How thick is the metal, cmoparedto say more expensive cases like Antec (every Antec case I've seen has pretty thick and solid steel.)

I do have a question though that quick perusing of reviews didn't answer: is the rear fan mount strictly 92mm? I ask because that's the spec, it looks to me like there are two sets of fan mounting holes so maybe the outer ones are 120mm. If it is strictly 120mm that's kind of too bad, an extra inch or so of width for a 120mm fan seems like a fair tradeoff to me.

A related question - what is the max cooler height? If that rear mount can take 120mm fans I imagine even larger coolers will fit.

edit - looking at more pictures...given the extra height abve the expansion slots (there is a vent there) I would expect that a 120mm fan actually could be mounted on the rear and that most 120mm coolers to fit. Confirm? :)

sorry, the rear fan mounts are for 80 and 92mm fans. As far as actual CPU cooler clearances.. any 92mm tower should fit just fine. I can check over christmas for exact clearances.

Thanx, i didnt replace all fans with apollish primarily cause i didnt want too much light, i just wanted to sort of highlight the heart of computer - cpu. And you are right i have an ssd and hdd sitting in odd bays, i have older picture without the cover:

haha i've actually used my girlfriend's Nikon D300s but its like nasa command center to me so pictures didnt come out as good as i wanted. Rear fan is 92mm with 80mm optional mounting holes, so i dont think any tower stile 120mm heatsink would fit, i'll measure exactly how much space there is and report back, and regarding build quality - its pretty good for the price but obviously not as good as antec or corsair cases. Metal is not as thick as in Antec cases for sure. But overall im happy with it.
