She took the ring off to do some Christmas baking with her daughters, but it disappeared from the work surface where it had been left, she explained to Dagens Nyheter.

The family searched everywhere and years later took up the tiling on the floor during renovations, in the hope of finding the ring.

It was not until 16 years later when Mrs Paahlsson was pulling up carrots in her garden that she noticed one with the gold band fastened tightly around it.

"The carrot was sprouting in the middle of the ring. It is quite incredible," her husband Ola said to the newspaper.

I call 48-hour rule on this one.

There's a lot of frikkin people in the world. With that many rolls of the dice, the odds are in favor of stuff like this happening somewhere, eventually. And in the Internet age, we're gonna hear about it when it does!

It said the ring had 7 diamonds on it. To me, it had to been a 1 carrot ring!

To me, the story is plausible in that the ring actually did not travel too far. It was believed to have been lost in a compost bucket near the kitchen sink, and would then have been either been fed to the sheep or worked into the vegetable row. So, 50/50 chance of being lost forever in the sheep pasture, versus being worked into the vegetable row for fertilizer. Assuming they work up and plant their garden vegetables in roughly the same place every year (my own folks certainly do), the odds were pretty good that it would eventually turn up on or near some sort of root vegetable, given enough repeated plantings (sixteen years, in this case).

Of course, "publicity hoax" is always a possibility.

I personally knew a guy that lost his class ring and got it back almost 40 years later. http://archive.sltrib.com/article.php?i ... rd=&qtype= Randy died from cancer a few years ago but he was married to my moms cousin.

The conversation that sparked was more interesting than the story itself.

/me is successful.

I do like cute coinkdinks for their own sake, though.

Then you have article bout that guy that had problems at home, put his ring on the sword of a swordfish in a catch and release, then years later, caught the same fish, with the ring still there.
