Windows 7 on bootcamp - poor .NET app performance

Fri Jan 06, 2012 4:15 pm

-Windows 7 32 Bit runs on bootcamp.
-.NET applications slow down intermittently with no rhyme or reason. Sometimes runs normally for several day then computer slows down.
-There are no security apps installed.
-network connection is very solid.
-unused wireless network connection is disabled.
-Task manager does not show anything unusual.
-other non .NET apps seem to be OK, but I have to ascertain that.
-no error messages.
-the only temp solution is to reboot.

Any info is appreciated.

Try using Process Explorer -- it has a whole page of .NET-specific counters (View->Columns) it can track. (There are other .NET performance tools but they're generally less accessible). It's possible the .NET garbage collector is wigging out periodically, and that may show up as excessive time in GC.

You're sure you're not getting excessive paging due to something else committing a lot of memory in the background? (If no security apps are installed, are you sure you've got a clean system?)

The system is clean as the hard drive was reformatted. The Task Manager does not show excessive memory usage by any apps, besides I terminated lots of processes to no avail. I will try those performance counters, thanks.
