I just got this new machine: Dell Vostro 3555 (15.6'') powered by an AMD A8-3500M, 4GB RAM and 750GB hard disk.
It has a matte screen and is fully decked out on connectivity: USB 3.0, eSATA, expresscard, HDMI, BT 3.0+HS, wifi draft-n are all present onboard.
Keyboard is backlit and decent to type on but not a thinkpad. Build is mostly plastic and quality is similar to a Thinkpad Edge and not comparable to say Thinkpad T series or good Probooks. A few parts are less sturdy than I would like, but adequate and not any worse than budget consumer laptops. It is not a thin-and-light but not overly bulky either. It is relatively slim for its size, quite decent looking and to me it looks like it borrows some design elements from the ill-fated Adamo.
It cost me about 600 CAD + taxes here in Canada, which puts it firmly in budget territory and is a very good option in its price range.
