Any suggestions for moving files from iPod?

Wed Jan 18, 2012 4:49 am

Apologies in advance if this has been covered; I couldn't find it.

I have an iTouch from a few years ago, and most of the files on it are ripped from CDs, rather than purchased from iTunes. (The few I did purchase from iTunes are still in my account.) In addition, my desktop machine was reformatted about a year ago, and all my iTunes settings were lost. I now would like to copy my music to my iPhone, and as you likely realize, I can't sync from the iPod to iTunes. I'm considering a software called CopyTrans, but the free version is pretty limited. Can anyone give a thumbs up or down for the full version, or recommend any other solution?

Thank you.

My roomate in college had the same problem. I believe he used the free version of CopyTrans or iRip which was limited to like 10 songs at a time or something rediculus like that. He painstakingly made it work without purchasing the program, though it took a very long time. Have you tried a google search of "copy songs from iPod?" There seem to be many program/app suggestions out there.

Here is a quick google hit to try out.
Main: i5-3570K, ASRock Z77 Pro4-M, MSI RX480 8G, 500GB Crucial BX100, 2 TB Samsung EcoGreen F4, 16GB 1600MHz G.Skill @1.25V, EVGA 550-G2, Silverstone PS07B
HTPC: A8-5600K, MSI FM2-A75IA-E53, 4TB Seagate SSHD, 8GB 1866MHz G.Skill, Crosley D-25 Case Mod

No worky in iOS3 or later. Depending on the age of his iTouch, this MIGHT work, but if it was updated beyond OS X 2 (or whatever they called it before iOS - and iOS4 was a free upgrade for iPods, so it's very possible it has been) then it won't help. The iPod plugin that Lifehacker references says it's different and they haven't figured it out with iOS3 or later.

iPhone/iTouch support disabled by default, because newer devices and iTunes versions caused Winamp to crash. iOS 4 or 3 wasn't supported anyway, due to Apple's implemented protection to keep us out of the game. It can be re-enabled for older devices in the preferences, on the "Advanced" tab. You must restart Winamp after this change.
