TR BBQ ~IX~ Official Thread - August 11, 2012

UPDATE 8/9/12 READ ME!
_____________________

Other details:
TR BBQ Pre-party: Tomorrow 8/10/12 @ New Holland Brewing in downtown Holland - for anyone arriving on Friday night we can meet up early. My wife and I will be there at 7:30 and stay for about an hour, obviously you all can come as early and stay as late as you want. I'll be wearing a navy Tech Report shirt and a tan baseball cap with a fish on it. Txt me if you get there and can't find our table.

TR BBQ: The main event! Show up between noon and 1:00 - food around 2:00. Everything else will happen at some point, not even going to try to schedule it, but we'll start the cornhole tournament when everyone from the confirmed list has arrived.

TR BBQ After dark: Saturday after 9:00 down at the beach, we'll have a fire, more eats, and $350+ worth of fireworks!

TR BBQ Walk of Shame: Sunday morning 8/12/12 - for anyone that is staying at the cottage or in town and wants to come back for some reason (forgot your camera or lost keys on the beach, etc) - yard and beach cleanup and maybe some breakfast if anyone feels like cooking. We'll probably be there around 9:00.
_____________________

August 11th is the official date! For those who haven't been to one before it happens in Holland, MI and we start things off around 11:00-noon - ever dependant on road construction. :o Folks are welcome to stay as late as they want including camping overnight.

Edit: Livestream link - should start around 11:00 AM on 8/11/12

Also, The official TR BBQ swap thread.
8)

Holy crap, that's an "X" in our BBQ! :o

So I got the email from my cousin today reminding me that reservations for the cottage start on 1/1/12. Last year I composed the email requesting the dates the day before and fired it off at 12:01 AM. Now its not actually that competitive but I should get an idea of what date will work for the most people this year so I can try to get a good one. Mid to late summer seems to be our tendency which I recommend sticking with since that's the best chance for the water to be tolerable or maybe even comfortable.

For my part I can promise a [much] bigger badder raft this year and since it won't have to be in service the week before it might even not leak.

Image

Also, we might get a better presence from AMD this year since they'll know about it further in advance this time - I have no idea what that could turn into but considering what the last minute contribution was last year it could be really sweet. <- sorry, we lost our connection with AMD in all the turmoil of their restructuring :(

So... Let's start talking. :)

If there's any way to avoid the August 4th date there's a much better chance that I could make it. First weekend in August has been set aside for 20+ years now.

As always, if I'm the only one affected by 8/4/12 and others would be more affected by other dates, do what you must.

I'll be attending Lollapalooza in Chicago which is usually the first or second weekend in august, other than that my summer is fairly free

So far, the only date I'm booked to DJ a wedding in 2012 is August 17th, 2012. All other dates are open for me!

I thought this type of topic (prior TR BBQ threads) were stickied, so it'd be easier to find. ah well.

I'm coming, but we'll see if I have to DJ on the Friday (day before the event). Hopefully the date is not set in stone yet for the BBQ!

Aug 4th!

OK, I am officially stupid.

#1 Misread Ned's comment, and thought that the 4th was when he could make it.

#2 Misread Sheldomaus/drfish banter

#3 Didn't read that the 18th had passed last call.

Time for sleep, apparently.

We're going to call it for August 18th - that is the official date. :D

HOWEVER, I'm not go to get two weeks at the cottage this year, just one so technically the 18th is my first day there and technically its not officially mine until noon. I'm going to try and work things out with whoever has the previous week so we can start earlier for those so inclined - especially for food related activities, but I don't know for sure yet that it will work out.

So I was thinking... since so many of us brought along many bottles of homebrew'd beer and a variety of other microbrew's...

Could we coordinate bringing 1 corny keg per person (the homebrewers that is - myself, jbi, whomever else). i can see about renting our club bar (up to 6 taps) for the weekend. thoughts?

How many days in advance must I arrive for the keg to settle into something drinkable?

Not promising attendance, but the date is not out of bounds for me. Wife & daughter are taking a 2-week cross country trip in June, so I've got clearance.

Gagh. As in Klingon.

Wheat beers delenda est. Never got the taste of them.

OK, scratch that idea then. I guess your other options would be to use a really flocculant yeast and/or do a secondary before racking to the keg?
