This is what happens when Comcast is broken, your service appointment is 2 days away, and you're running off a USB tether on a rooted Droid using PdaNet. Good thing I'm still on the original unlimited plan.

Original unlimited plan? I thought everyones bandwidth was now going to be capped.

Yet, another internet bandwidth epenis thread.

The best part is that connections beyond 10Mbps are practically worthless (save VPNs/Backbones) as the vast majority of servers online do not allocated that much bandwidth to a single client. It is also difficult to find a torrent that allows you to leech that much bandwidth.

I max out many of my torrents. It's nice to get a TV show in 2 min and HD in 5. Just sucked up a Dr Who and 1.2 gig in a little over 6 min is nice.

Got Deus Ex in a little over 45 min from Steam.

Oh sure a fast connection is useless.

Eh, I'll take it. Not as good as my result on the previous page. Still, one thing I can't complain about with Comcast is the reliability and speed. I may not get the reported results all the time, but that's the fault of the server I connect to. The people, pricing, data cap, and so on - that I can complain about.

Your ping sucks but I guess that's more a function of how far your are physically from the server you're testing with. (I'm somewhat jealous BTW)

Just tested from at work, and this is the first time I've ever seen a U/L speed faster than a D/L speed.

I don't get more than 10 ms on any in-country server. I just wanted to see external speed.

12.78 down, .65 up, and 22ms ping on windstream communications. I pay about $52 after taxes. I love my ISP, no P2P throttling, never goes down, and never slows down.

Man, doesn't anyone have access to non-fractional (full) T3 or any OC3/12/24/48/192/768 bandwidth at their jobs or universities?

I wanna see some REAL obscurely high up's and down's!

Testing with the BT's supplied hub connected directly to a machine:
Image

After connecting it to the office firewall (Sonicwall TZ170)
Image

Guess the Sonicwall can't keep up (it is about 5 years old). Still, it's better than the 2Mb SDSL it replaced (which was costing us 5x the price).

I know the tests are from differing days/servers but the results are pretty similar each time we test it and I'm not in a position to connect it directly today.

It's all a lie; actual downloads dip below 1 Mbps at times. Cable can give pretty numbers but the predictability of old fashioned DSL was nice, even if it had lower peak speeds. 3Mbps advertised with 2.5 actual throughput, any day of the week, any hour of the day or night.

Re: Internet Speed

Sat May 12, 2012 4:57 pm

Well after switching from RCN "no Caps" 25meg down and 2meg up or on a uncapped download aprox 3000KB/s .I was very happy with there internet service for 7 years and never had any drops at peak hrs or anything and great ping times.RCN is fiber in my area, but on the poles not to your house.Since i have 7 TVs they charged too much for HD box rentals i limited myself to only 2 HD boxes and the rest were just SD bobos,so 3 of my HDTVs had no HD,Luckily i have HTPCs on all my HDtvs except the kitchen one.RCNs triple pack with no premium movie channels just the HD package was costing me $171-$180 a month, and i owned my surfboard 5100 modem.

http://speedtest.net/result/1947430015.png 43mbs Dwn & 32MBs Up ......upload changes on different servers but Download stay at 42-43mbs at all times until you hit a bottleneck in the net or over hoping the pond to the Europe or Australia.
I cannot get upload to hit listed speeds but i will take the constant extra 8MBs over the listed DL speeds.I don't care about upload anyway I do not torrent or anything like that.
Now Fios just came into my area and i have the triple pack with 35/35 Internet Premium HD package minus premium movie channels for $152 thats including taxes for 2 years, including the nice HD DVR box,4 Additional HD boxes that can all control or play anything on the DVR box along with 2 bobo SD boxes.I love the MI424WR Actiontec modem with built in wireless that has great range and speed, along with gigabit wired connections that amazed me coming from my old school slow 100MBs linksys wtrg54 wireless 4 port router.I went from under 10MBS wired to 100MBS or better on the new modem,it seems it only go as fast as the hard drives themselves can output and my 1st gen compressed 60GB corsair force SSD is pretty slow for a SSD.I don't think it even hits 200MBS reads anymore.Even with trim enabled after 1 week of owning it.
I am also very Impressed with the TV image Quality.I think that is because it is not as compressed as RCN or Comcasts channels.Your all probably wondering 7 TVs with 5 of them HDTVs well here is my list.
Kitchen Has a 19" vizio razer 720p led HDTV
Living Room has a vizio 47" HDTV
Computer room/ Male Great danes Bedroom is a 37" vizio HDTV
My Bedroom has the 5 axis wall mounted 90+lb 55" panasonic VT30 and the 3rd gen glasses The TV is Mounted high and articulates 2 ft off the wall and angles down so we can lay flat and watch 3d and Normal stuff with the tv at our shins so it is like a movie theater and we don't have to sit up in bet to keep the glasses lined up.JAE its just far enough away you don't see the little tiny didy dots when ya get up close to the plasma screen.I know you have the same TV:)
Last HDTV is a 32 inch vizio down my basement gameroom with the 4x8 pool table, darts and woodstove.
One Old Little 22 inch LCD mounted to the rafters of the outside screenhouse, and a 27 inch tube in the last bedroom.
I know alot of people don't like Vizio TVs but with the cheap price they give a excellent vibrant picture as long as you have a clean signal. It would be nice If they had better blacks /contrast ratio, but i am happy with them. But compared to my panasonic they beg for mercy.I love the mosquito noise reduction that makes the blockyness go away in any SD broadcast or say a low quality 350mb 46 min episode of say star trek voyager or TNG.It makes it look just like the DVD it was ripped from even a lil better i thinks:)but not on the vizios AMD has mosquito noise reduction but it only helps a little bit on the vizios :(
I am done blabbing.Sorry but i was very bored.

On firewalls, I've seen running features like antivirus in particular slow things down a lot, you should be able to call Sonicwall and they might be able to tell you some things you can do to improve your speeds (or at least confirm that your firewall is only going to handle up to a certain speed). I feel like antivirus on the firewall is limited in value, anyways.
