Asus P67 Sabertooth + I5-2500k Temps

Thu Mar 01, 2012 10:43 am

Below are images of the temps on my system, specs below

Corsair 400R Case - Stock fan configuration
Asus P67 Sabertooth
I5-2500k (Stock clocks and fan)
16gb 1600 Corsair Vengeance
ET750 - Estasis PSU
250gb Seagate HDD (Stand in before I find the right SSD)
AMD (XFX) 4670 1gb (Also temporary until Kepler releases and prices drop)

Before running Prime95 - System was playing Skyrim and then idle for a few hours afterwards. Has been on for well over 12 hours at this point.

During Prime95 after about 25 minutes into the test, maximum heat test.

Considering the room temperature is 69*F (21*c), I think the temperatures before and after are actually pretty damn good, everything about the system at this point is stock, including heat-sink/fans. These are just preliminary readings before I put any overclock on this chip to see how far it goes and compare it to the temps idle/load with an OC. I have not messed with adding the assist fan, but multiple reviews showed that the thermal armor that comes on this motherboard is hands down better for cooling than when they take it off, as long as you have downward blowing air (from the CPU) or an assist fan. I plan on running both and charting the differences in temp to see if its possible to create too much positive pressure below the TUF armor, in turn causing overheating... Stay tuned :)

Try using Realtemp, CoreTemp, or HWMonitor.

49C seems high for idling... Especially for stock settings. But 59C for Prime95 is nice.

Ya, 49 isn't the greatest, but bare in mind that this is a stock cooler, and this is in an open "Cubbyhole" in the bottom of my desk, so its not like its getting open cool air like as if it were on my test bench.

What would those other programs offer for temperature sensor readings that the Asus provided software wouldn't?

I like to use more than one just to make sure. I've read that the Asus tool can be up to 10C off +/-
Just for confirmation I guess.

Makes sense though, it's just grabbing the hot air in the cubby hole. Compare with the other tools and see what it says.
