Spare Lian Li, Creative Ideas Anyone?

Mon Feb 27, 2012 8:15 pm

A video I made to show you guys what it is. I had the model number for it at one point, I've mentioned it on here years ago. I acquired it from another tech who swore up and down that this case is haunted (claimed to have burnt 3 machines up in it). Somehow I think he was not using the odd Lian Li standoffs correctly. Awhile back I ordered a pack of 25 of these "Special" standoffs for the unit for like 5 bucks, so they will be all the same and work correctly. Inside the case it appears as though its got the square holes for the standoffs that can be configured in a variety of different patterns. The system I'm thinking of putting in there is a Dell Optiplex 755 with an Intel Q6660. The case is in pristine condition and has the entire motherboard tray slide out with the back panel which I've always loved. Only downside is that how it stands now it only accommodates 80mm fans. I do own a Dremel (as you can see in the video), but I'm a bit reluctant to cut into this case because its condition is so damn good. Someone already made 2 holes in the front for 2 x 80mm fans.

Its got a nice rubber molded stylish window, so I'd imagine some cool lights or unique cable/water cooling would be nice. Any unique/practical ideas for this?

Almost looks like the same case that FroBozz_Inc used to have/still has...

Well the motherboard tray sliding out, the build quality, the sweet little window on it... Its hard for me to part with this thing. I was hoping someone had some sort of cool artistic idea, or a project frankinbot idea for it... perhaps a pure TR folding machine :P... SOMETHING!? I wonder if the case could handle a more modern gaming system....? With only 80mm fans I'd think that it would be louder and not nearly as cool. I just really like that window on the side, more so than any other clear sided case I've ever owned.

Yeah, that's an old PC-60 Lian-Li variant...prob around 7-10 years old or so. Personally I would keep it the way it is...its a nice clean case, and they don't make that one anymore so if you mess up a panel...your screwed. Plus I am a big fan of their early case style as I got the PC-70 full tower when they first stated importing them to the US back in the 90's, and liked the clean fronts over the multicolored plastic fronted steel cases.

I still use my PC-70 as my main rig, with the 80 mm fans too, I went with some panaflo fans...they move a lot of air and are quiet. I have no issues with heat and mine has 2 80s in the front and 2 80s in the back.

My PC-70 is still going strong - I've had it FOREVER it seems.
I think it started out hosting a P3-650 system if I recall.
Currently has a i7-860 inside :)
No real desire to replace the case anytime soon.

Good lookin' son! Damn you... I'm still on the i5-2500K. The i7 series was beyond my budget.

Yeah same here, just have not really found another case as nice as it. Mine I started with a P3-800, and have had 6 different systems in it so far....going to be 7 when I replace my C2D system in the next year. Best $350 I ever spent :D

Well your i5 is 2nd gen (Sandy Bridge) and my i7 is not (Lynnfield) - and you have an unlocked base multiplier - so there's that
