http://foro.noticias3d.com/vbulletin/sh ... p?t=391334 its in spanish so use google chrome or something to translate.Great pictures and graphs of different combinations of TIM material used between the cpu die to IHS and IHS to h100 heatsink.
I think it is pretty obvious now that intels TIM material for IVY bridge is garbage compared to soldered on IHS like sandy bridge.Soldering is the best TIM for spreading the heat through the IHS.
He removed the IHS on a 3770k and replaced it with many different kinds of Tim materials with the liquid metal Coolaboratory Liquid Pro coming the closest to actually soldering the IHS to the cpu die in effect greatly increasing the thermal transfer area.
At 4.7ghz with HT @1.30volts the highest it would oc with the intel crap i mean TIM material between the IHS and cpu die with a H100 cooling system the intel cpu hit 88c.With the liquid metal Coolaboratory Liquid Pro between the IHS and cpu die, temps dropped by at least 20c even as much as 25C,yep 88C to 63C @ the same settings!Just replacing the intel TIM with AS5 dropped temps 9C to 79c.
The best configuration at these same settings that dropped it 25c allowed it to run at 4.8ghz @1.35 volts and only hit 67C! 4.9ghz @1.41 volts hit 71C amazing!
I imagine if it was soldered on like sandy bridge cpus it would drop another 5c maybe more!
If Someone knows how Intel soldered on sandy IHS,correct solder material special oven temps and duration etc. They could make a good $50 to $75 even $100 a chip soldering on the IHS for the enthusiast overclocking crowd.
P.S that liquid metal stuff is awesome a bit of a pain to work with from what i have read but it is the best stuff on the market.JUST MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT USE IT ON ANYTHING ALUMINUM IT CORRODES IT. I would love to see the same tests done with a super high end air cooler also like Notuas NH-D14, Phanteks PH-TC14PE and Cooler Masters new TPC 812.So far the 812 tests out great a couple degrees off the two other coolers i just mentioned but no one has yet to test one with 2 fans to stretch its legs.
