Hi guys, we're going to do an upgrade to phpBB, for the following:
- Upgrade to the latest version
- Try to address the spam problem.

The upgrade will occur tomorrow morning, April 7th, around morning time CST. Some downtime is expected, 30m if all goes well.

Since my PC time is off, good luck with or, congrats with a job well done if you already finished.

Since it is the evening of April 6th in the US, I wonder if this already happened or will happen the morning of the 7th.

That was fast (33 mins according to the post times). Are the forums now on phpBB 3.0.10?

Hi, what exactly did you guys do to prevent the spam problem? I was running 3.0.10 and still got spam on my forums, which was only stopped by adding some Q&As and email activation.

Looks like the "Q&A"-type of captcha was added, which should prevent bot programs from posting... Though human bots still seem to get through it - I just saw like 5 spam posts appear... Maybe next step should be something preventing new posters from posting hyperlinks and not posting more often than 1 post/hour for a first 10 posts?

How come you hide the phpBB version # down at the bottom of the footer?

Yup, just reported 3 spam posts myself.

Because 99% of forum visitors don't give a crap what version of phpBB the site is running?

It's just set up that way by default.

It's just not something we've looked into yet.

To add to that: just because there has been no public response to the inquiry, it does not mean there has been no discussion and it is certainly not being muted (did you see threads swept aside to the junk forum where nobody sees it?). Mods discuss various issues in their own forum. And the general public don't see all the flamewars going on in R&P unless you ask for it. You don't see something does not mean it does not exist. Trolling every thread that you can about the topic may not go so well with some of the mods and is only serving as a turn-off for what you want to achieve.
