PCIe USB3 card with ASMedia controller?

Tue Apr 10, 2012 9:07 pm

Hi !

Just finished reading Geoff's Z77 board USB test update
http://techreport.com/discussions.x/22775
fab job once again TR!

Does anyone know of a PCIe USB3.0 card that uses ASMedia controller? Particuarly UASP enabled. It seems NEC based card are everywhere, but others are harder to find.

Thanks !

Have Asmedia on my Asus board, their second driver release came with a firmware update which killed the card (no, I didn't re-boot the PC during the update)
Not interested in Asmedias products, the NEC chip is still vastly faster than USB2 and well compatible AND cheap.
Sold as far as I'm concerned. Ordered one for 13$ delivered.

Thank you AbRASiON. I'll keep that in mind when shopping for USB3 card. Reading the customer reviews, it seems NEC based cards do have better drivers.

I have ASMedia on my Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 motherboard, with whatever drivers for it that are available directly on Asus USA website (Asmedia USB3.0 Controller Driver V1.14.1.0). Everything works perfectly, with great performance. Maybe you did something wrong?

I installed drivers, how wrong can I get it? I've been doing it for 20 years :/

I dunno, YOU did it, you should know better... Maybe old age finally caught up with you and you rebooted at wrong time (and perhaps forgot about it) or installed drivers for wrong motherboard model with wrong ASMedia chipset model  Or maybe someone at Asus temporarily uploaded wrong drivers for wrong model for your local Asus site. All I know is everything works perfectly for me, and I use USB 3.0 ports very often because I have external flash drive which supports such speeds...

There is a 1.14.3.0 release available from Asus.

From what I've heard, the drivers have been iffy. Not sure why you'd specifically seek out an ASMedia USB3 add-in card...

Not for my motherboard.

Edit: Just ran the installer - it removed old drivers and installed new ones... Plugged in my USB flash drive - everything seems to be working fine...

it seem to have the best performance, and USAP support doesn't hurt.
Ideally I'll get a Intel based USB3 card; realistically, fat chance :)
