HP ZR2040w, IPS, DisplayPort, $170

Thu May 03, 2012 10:37 am

I bought 5 of these for work and unboxed the first one today. Its pretty dang nice for the price. 20" screen, resolution is only 1600x900 (matches the laptops I bought to put them with) - but its a fricken IPS with DisplayPort! I think its cool but no one seems to be talking about it... :-?

How old are your audience? That's some low ppi/dpi setup there. :P
The Model M is not for the faint of heart. You either like them or hate them.

I've had the older, 24 inch (16:10) version of this monitor for about a year now and it's been great.

Looked tempting to upgrade my mother's system until I noticed that would be a higher dot pitch than the 1280x1024 19" screen she already has (and she has everything cranked up to "large fonts" on it nevertheless).

Its not for me, but as a general purpose screen for an office I thought I'd take a chance. Definitely a step up.

From a support perspective, there's much value in having your end-users' setups as homogenized as possible. Having their laptop screens & "desktop" screens match in resolution sounds good to me.
