What's going on here? SSD prices seem to be in a race to the bottom.

Supply and demand must both be moving in beneficial directions at the same time. I confess to being among the cheapest of the cheapskates, and these things are quickly getting to price levels that I can't even pass up. I said I'd buy SSD when 120 GB drives reached $1 / gig and that line got crossed in a big hurry. This is good. I'm weighing whether to jump now or "wake when" 250 gig drives get to my affordability range, but I'm having a hard time not jumping....

256GB drives usually have a performance advantage over their smaller siblings. I'd get a good 256GB drive that is ~$1/GB and be smitten.

It is without a doubt the best upgrade to perform on a PC.

It's not the MSRP so it doesn't really count as <$1/GB right flip ?!?

Yes, just do it if 120GB is enough for your non-media drive. In this particular case it is an older contoller (SF first gen) but in real world use the difference between high performance SSDs is negligible.
